Day 43

Yeah, I think given to pros and cons, locating the outdoor unit in the corner of the bathroom is the best compromise. The generator will be located on the right side of the garage, between the 2 windows there. This is also where the meter base and transfer switch will be. 2 conduits (AC voltage and control wires) will be run from the transfer switch to the sub panel in the basement.

They completed wrapping the garage today.

And the hole for the stairs is done

And they cleaned up the inside and added plenty more bracing the ensure everything is square for the trusses, which are still scheduled for Friday.

Electricians & plumbers dont care one bit, it is the Drywall Hangers/Finishers ( & Finish Carmenters) that like square angles and good corner bracing for nailing too. I hung drywall for a few years on & off with my brothers who owned their own hanging & finishing company. Worst part is so many contractors & framers will not put in any nailers for corners leaving US to fix it before we could hang the drywall.

The shadiest spot is best for the a/c unit. They will make their own airflow unless it in a corner 6 inches from the house.

Pete,
Your probably busy putting the blade on your tractor about now.
I recall the contractor promised to send a guy to shovel out your mom's house after the snow but will he be able to get there, is the big question..
I only see about 6 homes on the road to your mom's place and except for her site only one more up at the end.
You may have to become a road clearer.

Just watched the local forecast and they are talking about 12"-18" for my area. I suspect that means they are not going to back fill tomorrow. They didn't make it out with the equipment, so it will probably not be until Thursday at the earliest.

Just got off the phone with the builder and he assured me that he'll get a guy out there with a shovel once it stops snowing, hopefully by late afternoon tomorrow, or 1st thing Thursday morning for sure.

Ron, you're right about there being 6 other houses on the road to my mom, and there are 2 more past her house. 3 of them have small tractors, 2 of them with loaders and rear blades, so I'm pretty sure that little stretch of road will be cleared by them. I'll probably end up taking care of the road that connects the public road to mom's road.

Already got the blade hooked up and ready to go. All I got to do disconnect the tilt hydraulic hoses and hook up the offset ones instead. One of these days I'll get around to running hoses from the mid 3rd function back to act as a 4th rear remote, so I can use all the hydraulic functions of my blade at once.

You know, when we built the house here I was all worried about rainfall and everything before the roof was on and, after the fact I realize it's no big deal. We actually used a shop vac to vacumn up the water. I have seen that flooring material lay outside for a number if years and it still looked pretty good. Yes, I would shovel off whatever snow I could but I wouldn't worry about damage to the flooring. Your hoause is coming out way above normal. Just my own viewpoint here.

But 12" to 18" snow for your area. isn't that a bit unusual? Does it melt off the next day?

You are probably right that flooring material is pretty tough as others have pointed out.

12" - 18" is a bit unusual here. But then we did have about 30" back in 2011. They always seem to over estimate, but you never know. It should all melt in a couple of days I think, but it will be a wet mess at least through the weekend I would think.

Hang in there Pete, looks like beside for the weather everything is going well. I am enjoying this thread. I have some build projects in the future, between yours and the others on here, I have learned alot about documenting these builds. In fact when I get in from work, we are gonna be in the process of moving my wifes granny on her mom and dads place, and the first thing she wants is a 24' x 30' shop. So we are gonna get the dirt work ready and pour the pad when I am in. So, I will start a thread on moving granny when we get started. Good luck with the weather. LUTT
