YOU COULD DISPENSE WITH THE DRIVE SHAFT ALL TOGETHER. USE THE TWO TRANS UNITS AS DRIVE SHAFT AND USE DOUBLE U-JOINT TO REAR AXLE.

STEER AXLE ENGINE/TRANS TRANSMISSION W DRIVE AXLE

IF YOU WANT TO RAISE THE DRIVE LINE ABOVE THE CENTER OF THE AXLE A DROP CONNECTION(CHAIN DRIVE) FROM THE FRONT TRANS TO THE SECOND AND THEN TO THE AXLE WOULD ALLOW YOU TO STACK ALL COMPONENTS RIGHT OVER THE DRIVE AXLE.

--------------------------------ENGINE/TRANS#
-------------------------------------------------#
------------------------------#TRANSMISSION#
-----------------------------#
STEER AXLE-------FRAME--# DRIVE AXLE

JUST A COUPLE OF THOUGHTS ON YOUR LAYOUT.

I AM ALSO GATHERING COMPONENTS(FOR THE LAST 40 YEARS)

I'm planning on using my engine out of my 1992 Chevy Truck to make a tractor with. It's fuel injected. So I'll have to pull the computer and wiring harness out of another truck.

I know a friend who's got another truck that's been wrecked that I can pull the wiring harness, all the brakes, steering wheel, maybe front end, rear end and computer out of. As well as the instrument panel, and heater fan, brake pedal gas pedal and parking brake pedal.

Then I got another automatic Transmission laying around that needs to be put to use.

I'd like to go ahead and make a cab on it with heat and ac. A heavy duty tractor with front end loader would really come in handy in our salvage yard where we load up a lot of scrap.

Especially in the winter I wouldn't mind being out there in it and also have something to clear snow with. Besides the hand shovel.

Farmshow has a book on homebuilt tractors thats loaded with pics of hundreds of homebuilts and repowered rigs. THere was an old man I got to know a a few years before he died. He was a tinker and worked for the Army Corp of ENgineers on the river. When he passed I cleared some brush for his widow. I found an old tractor that she wouldnt sell. It was all home built, His brother ran a bar that I spent my fair share in. Before the crowd got there Id talk to him. He explained that when his parents still farmed with horses they had some bad luck and one of the horses died and the other was old. My friend didnt care much for horses so went out back and took a 4 cylinder WIsconsin power unit and made a chain drive to 2 transmissions. He had a narrowed rear end and a few other car parts. Even had mounted cultivators and planters.

He said that tractor and the dump trailer and cultivator and planters kept them fed.
Im trying to buy the old tractor now to restore. THeres also another one that was made from Dodge truck parts from the 30's and 40s. The man that built it worked for the old long gone Dodge dealer in Tishomingo MS. It pulled pull plows and disks on a farm and a drill. It was often driven to school by one of the grandkids as it went under the rule that a tractor driver didnt need a liscence. Both transmissions in low it would creep but both in high was about 55.

Also I had met an old welder from Louisiana one time when I was about 16. I hung around an old sawmill aprentissed to this old man. He made a tractor from an old IHC 1200 Loadstar with a 345. He flipped the front drop axle to make a raised axle. He had to swap sides with the spindles. He used cotton picker tires he recentered the wheels on the rear. It would run 25 in 1st so he added another trans mission. THe picker also donated the hydrostatic steering to. It was fun for crossing a big gravel bottomed creek. He used it for brining out pulp and saw logs.

I like the idea of having a cab too...I bought a IH715 combine a few weeks ago that has a full cab with heat & AC. I'm on the fence if I want to use the cab on this tractor or just turn the whole combine into something. I actually subscribed to Farm Show last week, I bought the book on re-powering anything, the book on uses for combines/school buses & the 1st made it myself book (I already have the 2nd book)

Oh, yeah!! Double the size of the hydraulic drive pump and get that beast up to 55mph.
