Smitesmash is much more energetic than I am, however. I hired a guy with a tree mulcher to come in to blaze the trail for me. showing the mulcher.

unfortunatly I have more time than money, and little enough of both.

Your getting some good advice on how to do it.

I to am putting trails on my property. One thing I did that helped plan the trails, which are not complete yet, was to go by my county office for the GIS or GSI and get a large areal view of my property. It is printed on a 3'x4' paper and is photo quality and did not cost but around $5-6 dollars. You can get a good idea of where you want the trails to be and then walk the property with the aerial view to help plan the trails.

I got one view from 10-12 years ago and one from November, '06 to see the difference in the property. We are building a house on this land and they should have another aerial view taken every 5 years so I'll get one then to see the changes made from the house being added.

You can look on line at your county GIS ror GSI and print the aerial view off oyur computer but your county office should have a poltter for the large prints.

MossRoad,

Thanks, those were some great clips. I've never seen one of those tractors in action and it realy impressed me at how fast and smooth it looked. The mower in the front is just the greatest feature in the world!!!!

Thanks,
Eddie

Thanks! It is a really fun machine to operate. In our woods, I just drive where ever I think I want a trail. Once I get through one time, I have a 4' wide trail. I usually make my second pass with a bit of overlap and end up with about a 6-7 foot wide trail. Wide enough to walk holding hands with my wife or kids but not much room to run from snakes, though! :D

I was just doing some simple math and wondering how you get a 1 mile trail around 12 acres ? Does it do a bunch of meandering ? I would think you need about 40 acres to get a 1 mile trail around the perimeter ? Not nitpicking just curious. :)
I just bought 6 more acres and it will take me over a mile of fence to go around it. It is 100' wide by 2640' deep:) That's the way the French originally
subdivided the south Louisiana property, in arpents, not acres.

Having a nice wide trail is enjoyable, not only for people. Nice place to sun yourself, which is where I found this guy.
