I am going to make a homemade boxblade. Has anyone made one and what are your suggestions. Also, if you made one and then after using it decided you should have done something different. All comments are appreciated.

Here is a photo of the tractor it will be used on

I made this outta some sheet steel I found along side of the road.

One of these days,I'm gonna cut loose the brackets holding the "wings" on and make them pivot to the rear so I can use it as a straight blade too.

What are you planning to do with it? Some particular job, or just a useful thing to have about the place? Old McDonald.

Haven't made one yet but want to also. You can get box blade shanks at a reasonable cost shipped from Agri-supply.(they have a few different styles) I've seen plans for one somewhere also. Agri-supply
I plan on making mine 4' with 4 rippers and some scrap steel I have.

Mark,

Our local TSC has those same shanks/scarifiers for about $12.00 each. Shipping on thsoie would cost almsot as much as the shanks themselves.

Gotta be frugal here. The more money you save on one project, the more money you have to use on your next project. Remember, always think ahead /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Surprisingly, Agrisupply doesn't charge shipping by weight, they charge by $ amount of order. (At least my last shippment was still that way in Oct.). So I order as much heavy stuff from them as possible in the same order. Unfortunately no TSC around these parts.

Great tip. I am new here to the TNC and looking for these kind of tips.

I have already requested a catalog from Agrisupply...probably stop by the Tifton retail store on my way to my NC property.

Thanks.

I built one out of 10" I-beams I had laying around, with a piece of 4x4 square across the front/top which I welded 3x3x3/8" angle iron as uprights for the top link. Didn't have any problems with the build, just a little welding.
The bottom flange of the I-beam is sometimes a problem but it is great for some projects so I leave it on.
