:what are you going to use the mill for? yourself or forhire ? for yourself a manual mill will work for a lot less $. to make it a money job full hyd. not from your tractor $$$$. there is a big diffence ie:insurance vs none ect. :confused:

I have decided to explore the PTO direct drive option with a moving log carriage. I will probably be asking some new questions in a forum other than hydraulics at this point. Thanks for the insight.

I'm pretty sure you will find it very rewarding building your own mill. However factory mills take advantage of economy of scale and buying your own parts tends to end up almost as costly as buying new.

And if you get a major brand name, such as Woodmizer, Timberking, or even Hud-Son there is support from the mfg. even for used machines.
