Building small tractor

Might components salvaged from a forklift work? If you are building a forwarder, you will want robust components.
I'd say not very good. I have 3 forklifts. One has a single speed HST, not a good candidate. One has a 2 speed geared transmission, not a good candidate. The third I'm not sure exactly how it works. It behaves like a ATV belt transmission, but I doubt that's what it is. The axels are also usually narrow which would compromise stability. You wouldn't have to worry about about anyone telling you to add counter ballast or you'll trash your front axel though. The next problem is not all forklift axels use bolt on wheels and changing them to off roading tires might be difficult. I'd look elsewhere for a parts donor.

That is a cool forwarder. I need one of those to go with my mini skidder <img src="http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=496816"/>
Makes me wish I'd have fixed my trencher instead of scrapping it.

I know there are some little articulated tractors that might work for this but you might need to build a trailer and grapple.
