i know a guy that built a nice treehouse with them.

here's a sugestion.

use screws with washer heads or seperate washers, and predrill the hole full shank.. .. I have seen them planks split easilly from nails or screws.

I made several rabbit hutches from pallets. I took them apart and used the lumber. Have fun and stay safe....

They make a terrific compost pile- air gets in thru the openings. And, no matter how hard the wood, they eventually compost themselves. . .

Yea we got several compost bins made this way works great. have also used for deer stands, using 2x6 for base between trees then attaching the pallets.

My plan was 6x6 for the posts to keep it up off the ground, use 2x6 for the floor and the pallets for the walls. That way I can then make it look like a castle. I will probably make two of them and connect them with a 2x6 bridge.

shows something along the lines I am thinking off.
I do like the compost idea too, Ill keep some for that.
Thanks for the idea about the screws and washers.

For compost bins, connect the pallets with fence wire- no drilling, screwing, hammering, and easy to take apart, when/if you want to turn the pile.

Yep, a child could get to experience wood slivers just the way we did in our childhoods,
FAR better than all the plastic toys that "solved" those problems - albeit with other costs.

About the only useful thing I've seen pallets re-cycled as is compost bins.
Say 4 on the bottom if you want drainage and air underneath, then maybe another 8 around the sides with the front two removable for loader access.
That uses 12 per bin and 3 or 4 bins in rotation would get rid of 36 or 48 of 'em, fewer if you share the dividers.

For hiding in a tree while you wait for animals to stroll by so you can kill them ?
Dunno, that might depend on your weight and whether you think you should take equal chances with your intended prey.

Anybody have tips on taking them apart? Screwshank nails and wire staples tend to split the wood before they succumb to cat's paws and crowbars!

good luck there.

I usually leave em intact as the wood is so hard it splits. when re-tasking them, i predrill holes and use appropriate nails or screws.

for re-using the planks, I'd popped the heads off the nais and lifte dthe planks off then ripped the shank out of the cross members.. etc.

For the treestand it would be deer archery season use only, I would make the windows rectangular the tall way instead of rectangular wide way to get a better shooting area.
The area overlooks my crep planting so I would also be helping my trees avoid the brouse.

day this site shows taking it apart to make a fence. Building a fence from recycled wooden pallets has someother ideas too.
