built pallet forks

When are you going to build a second carriage for my forks? :D

Actually, can you just add some dimension information for the materials you used? I've got a set of forks that are farmer-welded into a three-point contraption that is just a little bit too wide for standard pallets. My plan is to get/build a carriage for the forks that I can use on the SSQA on my loader and hopefully also put them on the three-point, but I need to see if it's possible to have the mounts not interfere with each other... Otherwise I need a QA on my three-point, I guess.

38" high x 46 1/2 wide I used 5" c channel ( overkill but free ) welded 1/2 x 1 1/2 flat stock onto that, used 4" cutting wheels and torch to make the notches. back plates are 3/8 x 13 x 20 all the rest of the material is 3 /8, I removed the front Q/A plate off the tractor for sizing the pins and side plates. I have like 10 picture of pallet forks off google, I stopped by a guy in a shop who had them on a skid steer, so I measured it up and took pictures. the forks I had so i speced it off them, keep in mind what is the max lifting capacity or you FEL, mine is 1800, so I was not concerned with making 5 thousand lb forks, although these would probably handle it. if you need exact measurements let me know

That is a real nice job you did, you gave me some good ideas.
thanks

That's a great looking set of forks. I like the use of the C-channel for the fork supports.

I'll put a few pics of the build I did late last Fall just as the temperature dropped away, before I could get the paint on. I used paired 3-1/2 x 1/4 angle for the frame members, stitched together to form an offset box. The attachment plates were from 3/8 plate. It's setup for quick attach pin style coupling for Massey Ferguson. The biggest obstacle is finding forks. I ran across some 48" forks on craigslist and that launched the project.

I also just bought a pair off of craigslist 48" way overbuilt for my loader cap. but $150.

a local dealer had used OEM JD pin type forks for my loader for $600 ouch. and even though they met my loader's capacity, I am sure I could and would have abused them and broke/bent something.

I think you guys did a good job!

I will take on the job of buildiing a frame plus a SSQA for the loader and adapter for the current pin bucket.

I wish was able to do all this when buying the tractor new but not available in 1994.

GPFLEPSEN nice job looks much simpler than mine

RDLN I agree my loader capacity is like 1800, new forks were way 2 much good luck

Very nice build aside from being your first. Those look nice. Looking forward to the other stuff to follow. I adapted a #point quick to attach to the front so I can use rear implements on the front. The pig pole makes a great high lift and the rear platform works great on the front too.

I had considered 36" forks but 48", for me, are much more useful. They give 33% more reach which is great for times, such as when reaching and getting loads off a trailer. How deep is a typical pallet? Having 48" of fork under a pallet may mean something at some point. Having said that, any fork is a great tool for the loader.
