Stumpjunkie,

Where'd you get that info. from? Can you elaborate some more on it?

Are you saying that Fecon has come out with a new product that lets you change out just the actual carbide and not the entire mount holding the little piece of carbide?

I've been wondering for some time now why the carbide couldn't be as easily replaced as it is on metal working machine tools.

CBTurf had those on the demo Supertrak...take a look at his pictures. Looks like a new style tooth that has a knife bolted on. $21 is probably for the knife only and not the whole tooth, the whole set up must be more.

Oh, so we're talking about the bolt on knives? I'm familiar with the Fecon knives that CBturf had that lasted only a few hours. lol

I thought stumpjunkie was implying that Fecon had come out with a new carbide holder that allowed you to simply replace the carbide by unbolting the old and then bolting on a new carbide insert, instead of having to replace the entire hunk of metal that the carbide is brazed to.

Something like this is what I'm talking about:

Easy Gamma I have a long memory when someone makes fun of me. Besides I ordered a machine with carbides and they sent the knives. It took two of us 5 hours to change the 48 knives out to the new single point carbide rock teeth. I will lwt you guys know tomorrow night how they did. I took a few days off to be with the family for easter so I plan to run the full 12 hours of daylight tomorrow.

There is a manufacturer from Germany, King Kong Tools, who sells all types of teeth for hogs, grinders, etc...Called them a while back to find out if they made Fecon teeth- turns out they do, but they sell them only to Fecon and Fecon dealers. Asked them about if they can recondition teeth (I only replace when both carbide tips are gone from my Fecon teeth) and he said that they had tried, but spent too much time cleaning and re-aligning the metal around the carbides to make it cost effective...but I have probably 10 teeth that are good enough to be salvaged and re-tipped...then rest have been scrapped.

At the Northeast Logging Expo in Bangor in May I spoke with a rep from Quadco (they make hot saws and other attachments for timbcos and the like) who had some prototype teeth for a Fecon...not sure if they are going to make it to production, or if Fecon would even let them (Patent wise) the Quadco tooth was much like the FAE tooth and that the cutting face was the only piece that was swapped out (Bolt from the back) when dental work was required

p.s Idahohay- where are you in Idaho?
Do you know of anyone in the Bangor Maine area who can provide
Bull Hog service. I only have about 3 acres in the Sangerville ME
area to clear and mulch.

I own a FAE head it also has double tipped carbide. I personally do not change a tooth if one tip gets chipped. It is to expensive. I constantly hit buried concrete and steel. Recently sucked a tire and steel rim into the head. I can't help with your repair but if it is not vibrating, keep grinding.

Ax- I also do not replace a tooth if one of the carbides are gone...Once in a while when both of the carbides go there is a nice edge left- so I just keep on keepin' on...get another 10+ hrs out of it sometimes. Then its change time...
