This has been a project that has needed done for several years. How ever this year issues with the neighbor has came to a head, so i am having to build a yard to house my bull while my neighbor has cattle in this pasture.

The issue is, my 2000+ pound blank angus bull knows he can go where ever he likes. My neighbor who runs black angus cattle never had an issue with my bull getting to his cows. Until this year my bull was a better bull then his. How ever now he has some nice young bulls who are being bullied "pun intended" by our bull. How ever the neighbor is being unreasonable in expecting me to be able to get him home by my self. So in the next two days, i am going to be building a yard to house this beast of mine. I have a north fence and east fence done already from previous work.

I have a west fence that runs north and south of 80 feet i have to put in. Then the south fence of 80feet that runs east and west. Goal of this is to build something strong enough not even he wants to screw with it. Plus it will have a hot wire on it. Using bridge guard rail was out of the question due to cost. So i setting rail road ties on 8 foot centers, putting an ac2 2x6x16 across the top and about waist high. Then hanging cattle panel over that.

I will get some pictures of what i am working with tomorrow. Today has been a rush getting all the bits and peices togeather for this project. I am hoping for a few helping hands tomorrow to make the project go much faster. Already got my palm nailer set up to drive staples and my impact ready to go to set the lags. Thankfully the barnyard is close enough to the shop to use air tools. Tomorrow i pick up the rental auger and the 18inch bit. Wish they had a 14. Going to be a long day!

Havnt had time to take any pictures. How ever, my buddy and i got the rail road ties set, and the first set of 2x6s on the face of the ties. Hope tomorrow to get the second set of the 2x6s up. Also hope to have the panel up and ran as well.

Had a huge angus bull that learned the same thing, no fence could stop him. I got a call one morning and the lady said, "Will you come and get your bull, the children are afraid to school." The bull was looking in the window watching the kids eat breakfast! Five min. later when I got there no bull he had wondered off into the woods. I found him about 3 weeks later after looking the county over for him. lots of woods in that area. ended up selling him at the auction for next to nothing. Hope yours turns out a whole lot better.

I would hate to have to sell him, we got a lot of money invested in this bull. The ground is so dry right now. I put cement in the bottom of the holes to give me something to pack to. How ever, i packed my first two holes today i used a sledge hammer to pack the posts. I still couldnt get it to pack, after 30 mins of tamping and my arm feeling like it would fall off. I ended up filling the holes partly full with dirt then flooding them. I though out the day kept filling with dirt and water and kept packing. I am hoping that they will set up over night. Tomorrow its going to be so hot i am not going to make any progress :(

The bull belongs to you so you are responsible for him. If you can't control him then selling him is probably the best option. The bullpen sounds like some hard work but the design should be strong enough to keep lover boy at home. :cow:

Yes. It's your animal. You are solely responsible for it. We all understand that stuff happens, but if it has escaped and is on someone else's property, your only attitude should be apologetic. If you can't handle the animal, you should get rid of it.

If I sound bitter, it is because I had a neighbor whose animals were constantly escaping. Dogs ate my chickens. Horses wandering the fields tearing up crops. He was real nice about it every time, but I wished he'd just get rid of the things, since he couldn't contain them.

Update pictures will be posted tomorrow. We got some much needed rain, and the posts have setup well. Now starting tomorrow we can start hanging the panels and get this project over with.

As for keeping my bull at home. I understand and know that it is my responsibility. How ever, when it comes down to it, for many years when we were renting a bull, my neighors bulls were over here constantly. They tore up more fence that i had to fix then i can out. It was my fence i had to fix it, even if his cattle done it. Never once did i complain or say anything to him about it. He was spouse to be my friend. I watch over his 200 acers that neighbor me, because he lives 10miles from this section of property. I run people off who trespass and poach his timber land as well. When his cattle get out i put them away. Every time he gets stuck in his creek crossing i come over and winch him out.

As said before, until this year he welcomed my bull as he was getting free breeding for his cattle from better stock.
