Did spring cleaning, took a mattress, couple shot up wheel barrels along with a two burn barrels to the county landfill in the trailer along with some other things.

Everything was taken but the burn barrels (I wasn't going to drop them off sticking out like a sore thumb).

Apparently I need something signed off by the fire marshal on exactly what was burned in the barrel, otherwise the county could not accept it. Only thing ever burned was papers of all things. No plastics, NOTHING other than paper product.

What do you guys do with old burn barrels?

Since I KNOW what was burned in them, I have an idea of what I'm going to do, but have any of you had this same experience where the county landfill refused burn barrels because you didn't have a certificate of some sort of what was burned in them?

Wow, never new burning office max printing paper and newspaper is illegal.

Need to go to plan B :ROFLMAO:

Won't ask any questions on plan B...

Do have to ask this though, exactly how does the fire marshal determine what you burn in your barrel to "certify" that you only burned the proper materials (guess something that grows naturally, but we use that for compost ;)).

You're on the right track IMO ;)

I just fell over dead when the guy at the landfill told me I needed a certificate from the fire marshal. I could have dumped it, but I was honest. That said, the guy at the weigh station forgot to take my name and he told me no charge when I was leaving with the two old burn barrels in my trailer. Life is ironic sometimes LOL

I never heard of paper being illegal to burn, see above ^ *everything is illegal somewhere.

Not sure how much land you have or if you have a area you could place a used burn barrel.
We use a burn barrel till it's rusted out and about to cave. Then I scoop it up in the
tractor bucket and take it to a "special" spot in the woods, dump it, crush it up using the
tractor hydraulics (super easy because it's totally rusted out). After a couple of years
nature takes it back.
Folks used to burn most all household trash but, tin, metal, glass etc would be placed in a
trash pit and eventually covered with dirt that was removed to dig out the pit.
In your situation it might be best to "shoot, shovel & shut up" so to speak.
Good luck. And please, let us know how that permit from the Fire Marshal works out, or not.

Burn barrels are illegal in California....with just about everything else, with the exception of weed. You are lucky all you have to do is go to a fire marshal and get it signed off!

But can you burn weed in a barrel??

I gave up using 55 gal drums & old garbage cans as burn barrels since they never lasted more than a couple of years. When they rotted out, I took them into the woods and let nature finish them off. Now, after nearly 20 years, there is nothing left.

Instead, I cut the top off a 120 gal propane tank and have been using it for almost 2 decades. It's rusty but it will likely out live me before it rots out.
