Where do I begin.....
How many of you live in areas that have legal burning? We moved last year to a county that does allow open burning UNDER CERTAIN LIMITATIONS.

I was wondering how many localities allow you to burn? Our restrictions don't allow trash, rubber or roof products to be burned, and there's restrictions on how close to a wooded area you can get. Also there's a typical "dry season" here where it's "recommended" you don't burn. Other than that? Light it up!

Neighbor bought the property next to his. It had an old 2-story house that was in need of demolishing. He stripped the shingles and then set fire to it. Nothing quite as startling as waking up, looking out your bedroom window and seing a house on fire!

We are allowed to burn. We are supposed to call the fire dept. first and they issue a verbal burn permit.

We are supposed to call and get a permit for any fire over 6’x6’x6’ from the forestry department. From May to October there is no burning allowed so that the air quality can be save in Atlanta which is about 70 miles away.

Our "Burn Ban" began Monday and will be in effect until October. Has nothing to do with dry season, however. We live in the metro Atlanta area where air quality issues are the reason for the ban. Summer = Smog. They say you can have small campfires, bonfires, etc. But no large brush fires. And anytime you have an outdoor fire, you must call ahead for a burn permit.

Incidently, we also have outdoor watering restrictions. Odd - Even days based upon your address. So, I wonder if you have a small campfire at you residence on a day your not supposed to have any outdoor water use, how do you extinguish the fire? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Before I retired as a firefighter, we had burning ordinances such as you describe, but could issue verbal burning permits. Now I live waaay out in the county where burning is not regulated. Occasionally the county commissioners will ASK people not to burn because of dry conditions, but it is still voluntary.

Couple of years ago I burned a 2 story 100 year old falling down house before someone got hurt. Waited until there was a couple of inches of snow, called the neighbors, called the fire department and told them not to respond unless I personally called....and lit 'er off. Really kewl! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Analysis: Just because I'm a retired firefighter, doesn't mean I can't still be a frustrated pyromaniac.

We're supposed to call the local US Forestry Service office if we're burning more than one acre. They ask if you have adequate lines plowed around burn area and if you have adequate water available. If so, they issue a verbal burn permit. For less than one acre (including brush piles), just burn it. I usually call the local VFD chief and let him know I'm burning brush piles and may need the tanker truck to come out if embers blow into surrounding areas. I also try to use some common sense and not burn when it's very dry and/or windy.

Me and 2 buddies were burning a small brush pile last weekend while my wife watched on in curiousity. At one point she looked over and said, 'Your shoe's on fire", to nobody in particular. All three of us looked down. One guy started dancing around, me and the other guy started laughing. Then I realized he had borrowed some of my mudboots so I stopped laughing.

Why do guys find fire so fascinating?

We can burn in southern Md. I have a cinderblock fire pit that we use for burning all the fallen deadwood branches and brush. Seems to be a never ending supply... my boys love to roast marshmallows and maybe a hotdog or two /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif it is a treat when we do it... Sometimes we will invite some others over for an Oldtime weenie roast into the evening...Good clean fun /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
