I had a good sized walnut tree die on my place that was pretty twisted up. I was a bit nervous about splitting it, but found that it was the easiest wood to split I have ever come across. I have it mixed up with the oak in my wood pile and I can't tell the difference when I put it in my wood stove.

It does split pretty easy. I think red oak is a tad easier.
But for you to say it is the easiest you have ever seen, you must not have had the pleasure of splitting any sassafras.
