I did do some checking and the only regulations are that it must be at least 10 ft away from the house. It will only cost about $50 to have them relocate the tank, and $3 a ft. to run the lines. Thanks for the input guys.

As someone who filled residential propane tanks for a while, I only ask one thing. Please don't cover it up to the point where the delivery driver has to climb over a bunch of stuff to get to the filler valve. I used to dread filling those houses where I had to drag out 150' of hose, over a fence, through a flower garden and around a lattice then brush back Rose vines(usually NOT thornless) to fill a tank.
My wife didn't want a 500 gal eyesore in her yard either (until we were w/o electricity for two weeks after an ice storm). Having been in the delivery driver's spot, I wanted it in the front yard, on a slab with a nice rock drive right up to it.
Sorry to rant, I also try not to bother A/C guys at night or on weekends in the summer time. Good luck on the project.

how about diggin a hole, lineing it with cinder block, gravel floor, and a small platform over it. lower tank into "hole" but doesnt have dirt barried up to the side of the tank....

follow?

Code will rule but I suspect a "pit" for the tank would not be allowed as propane is heavier than air. The pit could fill up with propane vapor and be an explosive or asphyxiation hazard.
