Don't you think, your 6' Befco is worth more on the used market to someone else... (guessing even ~~$300-400.) and then applying the difference ($150-200. out of pocket) to a bargain new KingKutter type 4' rotary...?

I had a Bush Hog SQ-48 and my cousin has an SQ-60. As your dealer said, they're rated for 1", but I, too, have seen them cut 3" stuff; wouldn't want to do a lot of that myself though. And as I said, I had and SQ-48 for my B7100 and shortly after tradiing up to a B2710, I traded it for a 5' Howse 500 because I want a rotary cutter that's wider than my rear tires so I could mow close to fences and buildings. Something you might want to think about. I think the Bush Hog is certainly a better machine than the Howse, but the Howse was considerably cheaper and more than adequate for my needs.

I've got the same unit, BushHog 286. The thing has been unstoppable so far, over the last year and a half. I got the chain guards front and rear, and was glad I did so. Better safe than sorry.

I couldn't be happier.

I've got a SQ 60 and I have cut some really big bushes down. 3-4in at a guess... BUT the deck has big cracks along the back and bulges from stuff flailing around. I'll buy a heavier cutter next time.
