Case DX33
I'm hoping to solve a mystery! I purchased a BH650 backhoe mounted on a Case DX33 -- nice package. Discovered when I got it home that the Hydraulic ram on the dipperstick cylinder was bent. I assumed that at some point in it's life it had been strapped down improperly during transport or abused in some other way. I replaced the entire hydraulic cylinder with a new part from Bush Hog (Through Messick's online). The new cylinder lasted about 10 minutes before it literally broke the rod. --Very Ugly! It does not seem logical to me that it should be possible to do that kind of damage to a hydraulic assembly from the operators seat! Im curious to know if anyone else has experienced this or am I specially blessed??

That is ugly. It does look like a defect though.

Does the dipperstick move freely without the ram in place? In other words, is anything binding that you can see? If not, it's gotta be a fluke, I'd think.

Another thought... ...Could someone (previous owner) have messed with the pressure settings. Maybe too much PSI. That could be how the first ram broke.

I've seen this before. It is not the norm, but not uncommon. Usually happens on swing cylinders, I guess because they have shorter rods. My guess is that it's all geometry, if it bends easier or if all the pressure is straight on, it breaks like yours did. That is not a defect, it happens that way sometimes.
