What is the "normal" or best box blade size that a L3400 can handle? Also, would dropping from a 6' to a 5' bush hog give you any more power to cut into rougher or heaver stuff? Thanks again for all the help you folks have given!

It can handle 6 foot implements but with a 5 foot tire width It makes navigating between trees etc much easier for me if the implement is the same width.

For me the best box blade would be 66", if the tires are 5' wide. A few extra inches beyond the tire is nice.

For the rotary mower, go 6'. It can handle it. You always loose some width due to overlapping passes. Can get close to fences, obstacles ect without having the tractor immediately next to the object. If the mowing is really difficult, then just take a narrower width with each pass. Turns the 6' mower into a 5' mower! Can't make the 5' mower into a 6' mower.

Totally agree here..
I have a 6 ft scrape and a 5 ft box... Wish I had thought about that before I bought the box!

I have a 65" Gill/Woods box blade on my L3400 that is my default implement if I don't have a mower on it (75" Coroni flail).

We already had 48" rotary for another tractor & I feel like the L3400 would be happier with a 5' & could probably even go to a 6' depending on the terrain.

I run a 5' BB and a 6' B-Hog(sq172) on my L3400(DT).
Works great for me.

Also factor in the area you are using it in - I would say 5' if it is hilly, rough uneven ground and 6' for flatter land. I run a 5' but most would say I mow mountains so I want to be a bit lighter for safety reasons

Like I put in another thread, the way you hold your mouth, has some impact......

Especially on those pucker factor hills!

mine pulls a 6 foot bb easily even uphill with a full box. I think you really benefit from the width being outside of the rear tire footprint.

I run a 6' box blade, 5' bush hog, and a 6' finish mower. Works great for my needs.
