So I need replacement blades for my older bushhog. tractor supply has the correct blade (length, offset, etc) however the cutting edge is about 3 inches shorter than the original. will this make a difference? I was told the difference was so bushhog wouldn't come after them for copying a part. I was a bit skeptical about that as the auto parts industry is all about copying parts.

the tag on my bush hog has a model number of S050R (might be O or 0). blade length is 24.5", width is 3", cutting edge is 9.25", offset about 2".

thanks,

Make sure the bolt holes are the same

I had to go OEM because no aftermarket blades had the proper bolt hole size. bjr

No. The outer 6" of the knife handles all the cutting up to about 9 mph. If you go faster than that youll need more of the blade sharpened..

I have been shopping for new blades for my OLD Woods 5' Rotary Mower.
I bought it used, in poor condition over 20 years ago. I replaced the rusted deck and fabricated a new Stump Jumper. Now it needs new blades.
I found the blade part number and called local Woods Dealer was told it was out of stock and would take about 2 weeks to get.
I googled part number and found dealer in Pa. with them in stock and ordered them.
They said the blades will ship today and I should have them in 2 days!!
If you have the part number you should be able to get the right blades.

I really don't think the 3" difference will make a difference in most cases. Ken Sweet

Sometimes you just need to go to the source. Took the old blade to Messicks, they had the exact bushhog OE part. Turns out my unit uses a #36 blade. price was less than aftermarket, and the cutting edge was exact same length. solved!!

should have just gone there first.

Messicks is our "go to" vendor for oem parts. Great company!! Ken Sweet

Glad you found a set of OEM blades at a good price. The blades for my woods ds96 aint cheap. And I couldnt find anything aftermarket either.

As others said though, that 3" aint gonna really make a difference though. Look at them blades after you do some hard cutting. You can abuse that bushhog and have no almost no edge left, and I bet that inside 3" of blade will still look almost new.

Altho unused beyond about 5", secondary collisions happen inward of that and will give the false impression that an edge there actually does something. The real issue is that that extended superfluous edge is material subtracted from the blade mass, causing a small detriment in blade performance. ... Perhaps the OEM blade is better steel though. THAT would be worth it.

I got a pair of blades for my Woods Cadet at Tractor Supply. I belive they're intended for a Bush Hog and were too long for the Woods. I thought I'd have to use a cut off wheel to shorten them and was surprised to find that my metal cutting bandsaw went right through them. I hope to install them this week.

Here are pics of the old and new blades.
They probably would have lasted another 10 years! But I am not that guy! :)
It cuts like a Finnish Mower now.

You got your monies worth out of the old set. Does anyone have a good
idea of use for old blades? I probably have 50 sets in a stack. I have cut
the hole end off before and made really big washers.

How hard are the blades? I have discovered that once the cutting edge gets rounded back they don't cut nearly as good as they did when the cutting edge was straight.

If you need another 3" of sharp edge, whip out the old 7" angle grinder and sharpen it back a few more inches.
