I agree with a 4'. I use one on my 2000 and it works very good. The Tractor has no problem and easily handles it.
Choosing a bush hog for a ym2000 involves more than how big of hog the tractor will run. The engine might be able to run a five or six footer but the physical size and weight of a five or six overloads the tractor. Even with a five footer you will need weight to keep the front end down in certain situations. A four footer is a much better compromise and when the day is done, you will have cut just about as much.
You're right about mine being heavy. I'm afraid what would happen to the front end if I DIDN'T have the loader!Yea Wolly that is a HEAVY 5fter you have. I can mow almost the thickest stuff in 6th gear and in light grass can mow in 7th even up slight slopes. But also consider you have a loader thats hundreds of pounds more weight than i have on my ym2000 (and yea your right, paint, internal over run clutch and the direction the throttle goes is the only difference)
