Bush hog maintenance

You too huh? Funny how all my 10 minute job turns into 2 hours, plus another 1/2 hour putting away the 57 tools, chains, cheater bars that I somehow hauled out, when all the job was suppose to take was a screwdriver!

Ain't THAT the truth. Oh, and you forgot about the 7 trips to NAPA, TSC and Home Depot to get all the tools, parts, etc. to finish the job.

Lucky for me there is a Mom N Pop hardware store(B&B) about 4 miles from me. If it isn't after lunch on Saturday or Sunday, I can find about anything needed there. For such a small store, I am always amazed at all the stuff they carry, animal traps, pump repair, bolts, hydraulic hoses, sprinklers, fertilizer, herbicides, pesticides, potting soil, garden plants, PVC pipe and fittings, culverts, you name it they usually have it and their prices are many times lower than big box stores and always lower than my local True Value hardware store where I have to buy my lumber and concrete as B&B doesn't carry that. Also, B&B lady can tell you how to fix just about anything and have all the parts you need to do it.

I changed out my blades while it was on jackstands. My arms were so tired when I was done I couldn't wave someone hello hardly.

A 1" impact with a 3/4" air hose would be ideal. Then a custom tool fabbed with an old nut welded to a piece of steel bar to drive out the pin/bolts would be a good thing if you had to do it often.

I just sharpened mine. I put all I thought my 3/4 rachet could stand on a 6 ft. cheater.Put the torch on it and got em off.Had it made then..wrong...with a sledge hammer and smaller diameter pin I beat and sprayed and beat and sprayed and finally got the pins out being careful not to bugger up the bolt end...wrong... I put the bolts in a vice and carefully run the nuts back down 2 or 3 times to get em back right. The easy part was sharpening the blades till the grinder fell off the table and broke the only disc for my big grinder. Went to my buddy's shop to use his big grinder and got stung in a wasp nest under the table outside. Sure hope they stay sharp a while. Good luck to ya
I might have given up at that point and just went for a beer and maybe waited a day of so to go back to that one. I grew up 20 miles from nearest town (still live 20 miles from a larger town) and I never buy one of anything. I have at least 12 of the 9" grinder blades, stacks of HF 4.5" cutoff wheels, a dozen Tiger Paw disc, 4 grinders but only one of them is a 9". I even have two ZTR mowers and 2 tractors just in case one goes down, I can keep the grass down till I get it fixed.
The things I don't keep in stock are the rarely if ever need replacement items like bush hog blades and blade bolts. I do try to keep a good assortment of 1/2" and below bolts, nuts, washers but it seems I am always having to stock those up & don't recall using that many.

I'm glad to see my "simple" projects go about as well as everyone else's. Thanks!
