Rotary Cutter bush hog not cutting

Jay, I just realized what you are talking about. Here is one photo, but I'll have to take more. The bolts & nuts were quite loose on this and I tightened them up but didn't seem to help.

Sean, Thank you so much. I'll post a pic of this sheer bolt that I replaced. It's very possible that what you are describing is actually my problem. Because I do not see ANY shear PINS. When I get home tonight I'm going to go look and get some better closeups...Thanks again and you are right...at least one of my brothers is kind of a jerk and the nephews can be too. Susan

Sean, here are photos of the shear bolt I replaced and by the way, just found out that I should actually purchase a REAL shear bolt as this one might not shear as intended...

Thought that was interesting that this drive side has 2 holes instead of just one, so I captured a pic of it too.

in picture 3 it looks like a slip clutch I would put a lumber crayon mark in a straight line up pieces and start tractor and put pto in gear stop tractor and see if line slues if it is still straight then it isn't slipping.

The other concern is the "weld" on the case (again in picture 3) there is no telling what went on to cause it to brake if it needing welded.

Ah, ok, good pix! That sure looks to me to be a slip clutch between the main PTO shaft and the main gearbox input, but I have never seen one quite like that before so I'd better not comment any farther regarding its function or lack thereof! It does look kinda like there might be some parts (springs?) missing that would supply "clamping" force to the clutch friction disk.

Ok, you guys with any Servis Gyro experience, what's up with this clutch?

- Jay

Or maybe not - I just got the owner's manual from "bosshardradio" open (link wouldn't work for me before) and the "shear pin flanges" shown in Figure 2 in that look a bit different than what you have. So it's possible that someone re-did the flanges/clutch in the past. Someone on here might still have seen something just like this though.....

DUH!! Ok, now that I look a bit more closely at that manual - what you have is the "Torque Limiter" (TL) clutch as depicted way back on page 29 of the manual. There are instructions for adjusting it on that page. This clutch does not use regular coil-type springs like many slip clutches today, but uses a spring-metal disk, or "belleville disk", part E in the manual parts diagram. Maybe all you need to do is to re-tighten the bolt/nuts marked N and P between the flanged yoke assembly and the driveplate (they look loose in your photos). And then tighten the 3 capscrews "M" with the heads pointing toward the back of the bushhog. If that puts some pressure on the belleville spring disk, you should be in business. If it is still too loose, it looks like you'll have to loosen the allen-head setscrews "L", and tighten the whole "pilot plate" (G). Your "Three bolt adjusting nuts" (H) appear to be missing.

I took some liberties with one of your pictures

A quick test would be to make sure tractor is off and stopped and tie the 2 out board blades in position with a 1/4" expendable rope or 3 or 4 lengths of baler twine.

Make sure no one else is around and start tractor put pto in gear and see what moves or doesn't .

I'll bet slip clutch will slip.

As I said in the picture the $64.00 question is how to set it.
