I have just talked to my dealer about a Bush Hog. He said that the most popular one for my tractor is the Bush Hog SQ-48. It is 4ft and my tractor will power it fine. He says that the book says they will cut up to 1" brush but he has seen them cut 3" without a problem.

The price that he could give me was trading my Befco 6ft Finish Mower that is eight years old. The difference was $590.00. I thought that was pretty could but I am going to shop around.

What do you think about the mower and the price?

Your differance is high enough to outright purchase a KingKutter, or probably several differant brands. Is a Bush Hog THAT much better? I kinda doubt it.

But then, if you are happy with the deal, that's pretty good...

I am going to keep working that deal until I get happy with it. There are three dealers in my area that will compete with eachother. I will keep working until I get the deal I like.

I think you are giving too much. You would probably pay less than that for a 48" King Kutter without a trade.

I wouldn't listen to his "it's rated for 1 inch, but I've seen it cut 3 inches" unless he will put it in writing that if you wreck it he will fix it (fat chance). I use a chain saw on anything over about 1-1/2 inches.

I have to agree with Mike you can get a King Kutter or a Howse which I own and have not problems for less than you are giving for the Bush Hog brand with trade.
I would suggest selling your Befco outright it is a good time of year. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have a Bushhog SQ420 (42") /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif. I gave $600 for excluding tax. The mower will cut more than the rating in the book, I have cut 3" stuff with mine. I would not make that a habit, but it will cut it with no visible signs of damage.
My main concern when buying something is parts availability, I know I can go to my dealer and get what I need right then.
