Looking for advice.

I bought above mower 1984 and got wonderful service from it.

Gear box broken and cost replacement $444. Told it cannot be repaired.

Have had mower strengthened recently by welding seams and welding angle iron sleds to sides.

The new squealers (600series) are over $800 and apparently inferior to the original 60 series.

Is this worth it or should I buy new mower.

TBN has been very helpful in the past. Thanks for any advice.

Well, $450 is cheaper than a new one, and what else is there to go wrong, other than replacing the tail wheel?

One thought. You might try finding a used junker and salvaging the gear box. I picked one up with a really bad deck for $150. Don't know if it's a 60 or a 600. It works, that's what's important.

I think I would try to locate a used gearbox. Do a web search on salvage+farm+implements and see what you can find. A few e-mails to people in the salvage business might get you a good gearbox at a reasonable price.

My new model squealer looks weaker overall than the earlier style.

I just bought a Woods Brush Bull 60 and am very happy with it. It has cut our pasture just fine (finding the occassional rock) and it made short work (except for the raking of the debris) of a hedge row of forstyhia. Fit and finish are great.
