I just bought a Bush Hog Squealer SQ600 rotary cutter. I supposed I should have asked this question before I bought it /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif - does anyone have any experience with one of these units? Good or bad stories?

I used it last night for about 4 hours and it worked very well. I shopped around and looked at several brands, and this unit was by far the best price compared to others of the same capacity. The dealer also threw in a slip clutch PTO shaft at no extra cost. Everywhere else the dealers wanted an extra $80-$100 for the slip clutch option.

I have this unit also. I've only had it for 2 or 3 weeks, but have mowed about 15 acres wtih it. Seems to take everything and not complain. This is listed as a light duty rotary cutter by bushhog.

So long as your not taking down saplings that look like redwoods you should be fine. The only problems I've had with mine have been the result of me overdoing it as far as what I've mowed down. It's not a Brown "tree cutter" after all.

Mine is 4 years old. I like it very much. Runs smooth and does a good job.

Only 2 problems:

1 lower gearbox seal started leaking this Spring. Not too hard to replace. New seal was pretty cheap and dealer had it in stock. No leak since.

2 blade tip height off the ground was not equal. One ran about 3/4" higher than the other. I determined it wasn't the blades or the gearbox spindle, but it was the yoke. My fix was using a 1/8" thick metal washer as a spacer on the "high" blade. 1/8" at the yoke is magnified at the blade tips and works out so now the blades spin at the same height.

You'll need a 1 11/16" socket to loosen the blade nuts, if you want to remove them for sharpening or adjusting.

Hey Corm!

Al has a Squealer for his tractor. I think he has had it for 2 or 3 summer with no problems... At least he hasn't called me to fix it yet /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

I'm glad to hear that Alan and the rest of you folks have had good luck with your Squealers! I'm hoping to have similar performance from mine. So far, so good!

Derek, Yes, it's been too long since we all got together /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif. Name the time and place, I'll do my best to be there! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've got the 72" model, had it for 5 years and will be replacing an oil seal before the season is over.

Mine's seen some pretty heavy use, but for the money it's been a good cutter.

Hey Ed. Yep like my Squealer. Been getting a little braver with it every year! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Put some dents in it but still runs strong. I brush hog 2 or 3 times a year here for about 20 hours. Mostly pasture but been getting into some 1-1 1/2 inch stuff. Proberly wouldn't go much bigger. It's not a heavy duty but perfect for my tractor and usage.
Breakfast? When and were? By the way can't afford Derek to fix my stuff!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Drinks that expensive German beer!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Take care and say Hi to Holly.

I've had mine for five years now, Very satified with it so far but probably pretty "light duty use" mostly anyway. Mowing road shoulders and keeping two tracks open at our hunting property. Sumac and young aspen mostly for what passes for brush up here. I'd buy another one for this duty. It makes it easy when you use the right tool for the job at hand.

Thank you everyone for your responses to my query regarding the BushHog Squealer. I've put about 10 hours on mine so far and am very happy with it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I went with a friend of mine the other day to purchase a Bush Hog Squealer SQ720. It is a very fine cutter in my book. He has cut a hell-of-a-lot-of grass with it and the blades are still sharp! One big mistake that was his fault was he didn't look over the land that he was cutting before he started. The very first day he got it and with about 40 minutes of running time, he hit one of our horse shoe poles that was in the ground. Some how, the pole came through the front left side of the cutter, leaving about a 2 inch diameter hole in the side of it. We didn't realize it until we washed it. We took a hammer and beat it back in. Even though it was his, we were both sick. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
