Maybe? It's obvious no network wants to be the first to declare a winner, but if you take all the states currently called the current total is:
Bush: 274
Kerry: 252
The only states that have not yet been called by any network is Iowa and New Mexico. When it's all over the final tally should be

I think it turned out to be an interesting night for "values" as it seems like the vote may have hinged more on character and value than on the economy or terrorism. 11 states had same sex marriages on the ballot and voters declared those illegal in all 11 of those states. Gun rights seems to have played a part. Abortion and stem cell research (cloning) also seems to have brought out voters. The media seems to have gotten wrong the effects of the "youth" vote.
It could be argued that Democratic Senator Dashele, leader of the Senate, was ousted because his "values" were too different than President Bush's values.
Indiana has a tendancy to vote Democratic locally and Republican nationally, but Indiana voted out the Democratic governor and voted in a Republican challenger. Those same voters overwhelmingly elected a Democratic Senator and Indiana was the first state that the networks called for Bush when the polls closed. Interesting dynamics.
When all the votes for all the races are counted, it will be interesting to see the total outcome. But it looks like the Republicans picked up 2 to 3 Senate seats increasing their majority as well as picking up several additional seats in the House to increase their majority. I'm not sure the last time that one party pulled off such a resounding victory in so many elections (even if the victory is by a small margin in many races).

Is this CNN or TBN? I thought there was a no politics policy on the web site????? It seems to me that some people on this discussion group can give their political views but others get their posts pulled. I know this from personal experience. I have also been told that post would be pulled because of political content and they were not removed. There is a double standard on this site concerning this issue. What's up with that?

David, so far I think the posts are simple observations of what happened. Nobody seems to have stated their personal prefernce and nobody seems to have even said what side they are on or even what values they have.
I think it is reasonable to state some information and observations, but not to inject opinion. It is pretty hard to argue that rural land owners don't have a stake in the elections. I consider the process itself to be interesting.

Well I don't know about your PM, but I know that I've had many of my posts removed, and I hold no grudges when that happens. Heck there was one thread that I started that I thought was going to turn ugly so I asked to have the entire thread deleted.
I think, within the RELATED TOPICS forums, that there is some room for some discussion. However, I think the topic of politics must be kept pretty sanitized. Which means that I think (my opinion only) that we can post some factual data but should stay away from personal opinions.
I intentionally did not post the "reasons" why different people voted the way they did. But one of the most interesting things I find with this election is the % of people who voted "for" a candidate and the % of people who voted for someone they didn't like just because they were "against" the other guy. It shows how much real support one of the candidates had and how little support the other candidate had. However, I figured that posting that type of data could lead this to a discussion of political opinions as opposed to simple observations.

Yeah, where is CNN in all of this. I just looked at their web page and they still have a bunch of states still open and they show the electoral votes Bush 254 and Kerry 252. Maybe that is why I don't watch them much anymore. Foxnews, Msnbc and others have the article on and declaring Bush the winner.

Murph, you're not the only one to abandon CNN. They are disbanding their CNNfn channel and laying off their employees. Their mainstay CNN channel has some very interesting watching habits. When news is breaking, the number of people who turn on CNN skyrockets, but as the story develops, those people who turned on CNN tend to switch to the networks. The bottom line is that CNN is good at breaking the story, but not good at providing in depth analysis after the story breaks. There seems to be a major trust issue with viewers, many of whom believe them to be more biased than the major 3 networks. So when the story breaks, turn on CNN, but then switch to ABC, CBS or NBC for the whole story. For cable viewers, the number one network is FOX, although I've not seen numbers on how it stacks up against the 3 major networks on broadcast news stories.
