Today my daughter and I decided to move some large bushes. We didn't care if there were saved or not as they are just in the way at the farm. So we used the tractor to pop them out of the ground using the 3ph and used the loader to move them. Here are a few shots of the size of them. We planted them out in the woods along the roadside.

This is the 3rd one we moved and replanted. The second one is an evergreen of some sort and that one got replanted also. One of them I could not pop out even with digging around it. Mr. Husqvarna (chainsaw) came to the rescue and snipped it off. Now there's only 2 more to move. But I'm hungry and that can wait.

Here's what the old 1750 farm house looks like now with the 6 bushes removed. The finish grading was done with my box blade. What a time saver that was.

A better shot. The little pip-sqeak is my 20 year old daughter that will be moving in here once we get the place finished.

Looks like a fun project and good "quality time" with your daughter!

Those are some big bushes!
Why did you use the 3ph to "pop" them out of the ground? Does it have more lifting power than the FEL or did you use a special attachment?
I have some similar sized clumps of saplings I'd like to get rid of and would appreciate the mechanics of how you dug around them and popped them out. I'm not looking to replant.
Thanks.

It was good for her to see what hard work is all about. It was also nice to see her spending some time helping to fix the place up since she is the one moving in there. I just hope that I like her future boyfriend/husband if she ever finds one. If your bushes have a tap root you will not be able to pop them out easily. You might not be able to save them.

I dug around the bushes about 15" away from the center using a shovel to cut any roots that went out sideways. I used a nylon strap around the base and over a drawbar aand attached the other end to my trailer hitch. My 3ph has 1653 pounds of lifting force 2 feet from the pivot point. My loader is rated for 1100 pounds. I did however put a nice bend in the drawbar popping these out.

Thanks, Jim.
I didn't realize the 3ph had more lifting power. It must be in the owner's manual..... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

(It must be in the owners manual)

That is where I found the lifting capacities of both on my tractor.

Gotta say that removing the bushes will not only make it look better, but they were keeping a lot of moisture on the house as evidenced by the green on the clapboards. Removing them and getting some sun on the house should make the siding last a lot longer.

Good job!

I'm sorry, those photos must be doctored, I have a twenty year old daughter and she'd never touch, much less actually use a hand held implement for "work"!! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Your daughter and my 21 year old son should get married. They would make the perfect happy couple. He doesn't like manual labor either. He said that he will make enough money when he graduates from college to hire people to do any manual labor that needs to be done. More power to him. When the sh-t hits the fan someday he'll be screwed. He won't know how to wipe his arse by himself.

Well that's the guy she's looking for, lots of money, LOL.
She's brought a couple by that were supposedly rich, seems like it was only in their minds. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

My son's first and second cars were both BMW's, although used ones. He's got the mindset to be among the rich and he is a go-getter. He moved off campus and rented a house with 4 women. He manages the house and decides who can rent a room when there is an opening during the summer when schools out. He is a very smart individual. In high school he had this really pretty well endowed girlfiend. He dumped her because she was not up to par to his standards. He said she was a dope. All she wanted was to get married and he wanted to move away to go to college.

Can I send you a couple to train? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif )</font>

The kids probably woudn't last a week with me. I don't hold back and surely not politically correct.

Maybe he'll be running the overseas division as he is taking International Business at school. Presently he is a salaried worker for a non profit in D.C. full time for the summer. They work with trying to pass laws in Washington to help small businesses. My son is like my wife, very business smart and my daughter takes after me, not afraid to work and get dirty.
