A few pics of the bushes. Waiting on a good rain before I try to pull. First pic shows a good 7' tall ones. Too bad don't have any dynamite. ;-)

I don't know the official name of those but they are common shrubbery. Have some around our house. Instead of pulling them out you might consider just trimming them back with a chainsaw. They are very tough and can withstand major trimming.

Those look like globe type arbovitae (sp??). You see 'em alot around here in both types "globe"- round and "pyrimidal"- tall/spiky. I've never tried to pull one out so I don't know about their root systems ...
