Got my cab!!

I just wanted to let you guys know I got my cab on Monday,it got delivered to me around 11am and came mostly put together.I promptly unwrapped it and got the directions out ,I read through them for about 15 minuets, they are fairly vague, but good enough to get the job done.I started dis-assembling the rops on my 110 at about noon, lifted the cab up with my excavator and lowered it onto the 110 at about 1:30,had to run some errands, came back to the shop at 3,bolted the cab down, mounted the panels that close up the areas by the brake and hydro pedals, and re-mounted the original 110 roof to the cab by 6pm.So roughly 5 hrs to get the main cab mounted, but,I still need to hook up the heater hoses to the motor(which there are ports for),hook up the power to the battery, and install the backhoe portion of the cab.As far as fit and finish of the cab it is excellent,it looks factory and nothing on it is hoakey.I do have a few things that could be improved though right off the bat,the fuel cap is now fairly tricky to remove,it needs to be positioned just right to get it off once it is unscrewed,I can no longer see my level indicator /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif there is a piece of sheet metal blocking my view so I'm going to cut it away with a hole saw and glue a piece of glass over the opening, the heater and electrics are already installed which is great, but they ran the electric lead for the battery down on the right side and the battery is on the left,I think these are all minor things considering the big picture and are easily fixed. So if you need a cab and want it to look like it came with the machine this is the one as long as you have the dough for it,I think it is well worth it.

Re: Got my cab!!

Tags: How is your 110 starting in this cold weather? At 10 below my 110 will hardly turn over. I'm looking into a block heater from the dealer. I'm assuming that you got one with your original purchase. Either way, can you tell me about the installation? Oh, by the way, good to hear you have a cab. Thanks Bushy

Re: Got my cab!!

Bushy, You should have a block heater installed if you want to use your 110 on real cold days. I keep mine pluged all the time during cold spells just in case I need it. But I always hope I don't need it . It has gone done to -20 a few times this winter. Mine 110 came with the block heater. They don't send new tractors out without them anymore at least at this dealer. I believe it's a fairly easy installation.
I think it was only $40.00 installed.
I have a soft cab which has proven to be quite adequate for my needs. I thought about a heater but I'm already to warm if the sun is out when I'm in the tractor, athough I didn't take it out on real cold days. You don't see to many people working outside at -10 with the wind blowing. Stay warm, Joe

Re: Got my cab!!

Bushy and Joe,
Glad to hear from you guys, and hope all is well! Bushy,to answer your question,I have had no problems startin' the 110,I don't have the block heater, and it has been sitting outside for weeks,I needed to load some sand the other day,it was about 0 degrees,I let the glow plugs cycle, and she fired right up.I did have to let her warm up for a good half hour to get all the fluid warm before I started loading.I have also been using it to plow some snow with, the thing is great in the snow.I took an 8' fisher plow and mounted it to a skid steer plate, made some side plates for it,and hooked the hoses up,and WALAH instant power angling snow pusher. The cab makes it really nice to use when its cold, toasty warm,it really compliments the machine well.

Re: Got my cab!!

Hey Tags,
I was out digging some footings yesterday and I was trying to figure out the slop in the bh. You mentioned shims for the bucket pin, But I notice slpo all over. including boom to dipper. Ii checked out a 310 to see if there might be some engineering behind it, but the 310 is either has tighter fitting castings, or it is shimmed. The boom cylinder rod end which attaches to the dipper has about one inch of pin on each side, and I can tell it moves side to side. It seems like it would be nice to shim all the connections. Any thoughts? How bout Bushey and Joe? Have you guys done anything to this effect? Also, do you rigs move at least a foot forward everytime you touch the forward peddle?

Re:Fixing the slop.

Whoodle,
Yes, I did shim some things,my biggest concern was the main backhoe bucket pin,it had alot of "slap" side to side.My dealer sent me some shims,I installed them and it tightened it up pretty good.I haven't noticed it where you have it happening, but I'm going to check. If there is one thing that bugs me about the 110,I would have to say it is all the "slap" between the cylenders, pins, and mounting brackets.I feel that this tends to exagerate wear and is a bit unerving. My main pin on the hoe bucket already has some wear,I have 150 or so hours on the machine, and less than half of that has been with the hoe, what is it gonna be like in 400 hrs?I am pretty sure somewhere in the 110 literature,it stated that it has replaceable pins and bushing at all excessive wear points.I'm pretty sure that the main bucket pin does NOT have replaceable bushings,I say this cause when I installed the shims it looked as if there were none,so I had my salesman get me a parts breakdown of the dipper, and lo and behold,no bushings. So when it does wear out it is going to have to be bored out and bushings installed, much more involved than just replacing bushings.Even my L35 had replaceable bushings everywhere, and it had very little play even after 1500 hrs of use.

I am in the process of making a punch list of things that should be fixed or at least aknowledged by JD.I am going to mail it to JD and also to my dealer.Mind you not an abusive letter, just one to let them know that some things should be addressed if they want to keep a happy customer. It would probably be a good idea also if all other owners of the 110 wrote a little note to JD about some of these things too.

Re:Fixing the slop.

I did not investigate the replaceble bushings, but it makes sense. Take a look at the castings on a 310. the fit is better, or it is shimmed. I have the thumb which also attaches at the bucket pin. If I have the same pin as you, you must have had a lot of slop because I've got some extra stuff attached there. Could be quite abummer to remachine instead of re bush. May be machine it for an aftemarket bushing.

Re:Fixing the slop.

After the wear gets excessive u could always give it to
someone on tbn and buy a new one /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

W/ the hardened steel pins u will get MORE wear in the
casting which I wouldn't like at all.
Maybe enough of u 110 owners complain and get a recall
on it or something.
