Just wondering who uses their tractor for their primary business. Landscaping, orchard, farm etc.

How about for a little side cash? Plowing snow, brush hogging etc.

375 grafted fruit trees on 5acres with 5 more acres to plant this fall. Do the odd brush hog, disc, ditch and dirt work with Case and row build with Super C. Sure don't advertise and only CLOSE friends need ask.

a little bit of both, i run a machine shop/ welding business, and use some of our equipment around the shop, and do the odd job on the side with them.... but it's all for pleasure /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Mine only gets used for anything business related if I use it to move a snow pile or something like that at my business. Other than that rare instance, it's all personal use. Of course, I use it to help friends and neighbors out, but I call that personal, too, as I never take anything for it. It's just part of being a friend or neighbor. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

That busines issue is a thin line for the insurance company.

For instance.. I can mow my yard.. and even trailer the tractor to my budies yard.. and mow it for him. ( for free-- they must know my Buddy! ).. but if I charge.. it's business.

I do some side jobs. Mostly box scrapping and york raking - cleaning up after my buddy's bulldozer when he gets done on different jobs. I've given prices for brush hogging but have yet to do an outside job.
Last year I busted my butt to get a big job done during my vacation in July and the guy didn't pay me until October. I don't "chase" jobs as much anymore, but I've also changed the way I do business and I'm not scared to work for that type of guy again because I'll have money up front!

Mines purely for pleasure . In fact if it's not Heresy to say so , I could most likely get by without it . But having said that it would be miserable to do most things without it .
I occasionally plow the neighbors drive and Brush hog some things he needs to have done . But it's never for cash . I figure it's just a neighborly thing to help out when asked . John

I'ts not that quick, but it's a moving assembly line. Wife on Case with 24"PHD digging holes, myself in 4wd truck with 18'X7' trailer load of trees planting/berming, teenage daughter on SuperC with 500gal tank of starter(weak liq fert). Average about 50/day. Precision is more of a concern than spped, due to cost of losing grafted trees.
That's just the planting. There's untold hours of work in ground prep and mapping tree spacing.

About 80% of my tractor use is for the farm (business), like clearing for planting berries and christmas trees, firewood, log skidding, bushhogging, etc. The other time is spent tending the horses, which are not part of the business. During the winter months, it is used mostly to move the snow around.
