Yes, it was a good fix for about "almost" a year. Well, I've broken it again.

I've decided to machine a bigger and harder pin for it. Use tighter tolerence on the pin and tube. I'll have to use a torch to cut the plate off the rake. I cant get a saw in there.

The pin that broke was 1.5 inch thick (O.D. 1.500). I'm going with the next pin thickness of 2 1/4 inch thickness (O.D. 2.250). The tube that will slide over the pin will have .010" clearence (+- .002"). The tube will be 1/2 inch thick as well. The old tube was 1/4 inch thick. The old tube when slid over the old pin, it had 1/8 inch clearence (sloppy).

I've already bought the new pin and tube. I have to machine the pin to fit the tube. Cut the length of the pin and tube. Cut the rake apart. Machine the hole in the plate to except the bigger pin. Make new brackets, drill a new hole in the new tube for a grease zirk. Make a new cap to hold the bottom of the rake to the three point. I just got in from doing a inventory of my torch, welder and grinding disc. I have to stop at tractor supply and get a pack of 4.5" grinding disc. I'll machine everything at work tonight. Tomorrow morning, I'll start the torch cutting and grinding. Hopefully I'll finish it up this weekend. I'll post back then.

I once was pushing a 84" blade backwards , blade was facing back ,and hit a rock. The lower 3 point arm went into bent compression and the lower pin, 7/8 diameter, failed in tension. What a hugh bang. Scared me 1/2 to death. Never found the pice that broke off. Was a hugh relief to just replace the pin and not some major transmission element.

My 6' Woods back blade did the same thing. it was a 7/8 bolt. I replaced it with a grade 8 and no problems so far. I do add grease to the shaft.

I finished up machining the pin and the tube. Got it welded together. I know for sure it wont break this time. We'll, I hope it wont.

The problem with mine was the pin was soft metal and the pin and tube had to much clearence. 48 horses snapped it like a pencil. My first pin was 1 1/2 inch pin. 7/8 would have snapped the first time I used it. The new pin, which is 2 1/4 inch (2.225 O.D.) hopefully wont break. I hope not cause it hardened.
