Well now I know the odd looking chisel I inhereted is a cape chisel. I hope I never need to use it on a broken zerk.

Well, now that I have one I need other projects to use it on. I've never chiseled metal before and to be fair the zerk removal didn't really use the chisel as anything more than a harder steel point to get a grip on the busted zerk body to rotate it out. I'd like to learn more about how people use these chisels and for what purpose. I know they can remove metal but am unclear on why one would chisel rather than torch, file, drill or plasma cut. I suppose they are perfect for carving your girlfriend's name in your tractor engine block. What else? Any machinist or blacksmith out there to point us cape chisel newbies in the right direction to learn more???
