Busting a Beaver Dam

Oooh thanks guys. We are way too close to the Interstate to shoot a gun and since we were wiped out of trees by Hurricane Michael, there is not a bloody thing to slow a bullet down now. We haven't shot a gun since Oct 10th :(

We were hoping the other lake/pond owners up and down stream would dispatch the critters since everyone has the same issue....... but so far they just do the same as we do... clear the debris with gates and other DIY fixes.

No one seems interested in pelts or trapping around here. :( It isn't our bag either but it may come to that.

Well you cannot shoot them, my deal was the wait time for them to come around.

The traps were the most effective use of my time. Punch a hole, set trap, return next day to recover.

My neighbors were against trapping, until the beavers took out a tree next to their garage. Then they were all in.

They eventually move on, food source, but by the looks of your picture, seems you have a buffet on order.

Good luck with the issue. Be safe.

Search Beaver Pipe on internet. It will show you solutions on how to keep beavers from plugging up your culverts. It’s not a perfect solution, but helps control the amount of damage from flooding.

Or just click on my link in post # 7. I looked at several websites, and that is the one which seemed most appropriate for the OP's situation, based on the culvert shown in her video.

It's the wrong time of year for fur... although in Florida they may never be prime. If you use Conibears make sure they are below the water, you wouldn't want to catch a curious pup. Also make sure that it's legal, before posting what you do. I doubt that you need to worry about it though, for the reasons given in my first sentence.

There are a lot of devices to keep the little buggers from plugging up pipes; some more effective than others.

The ideas in the link should work. We had a beaver problem once upon a time and beaver pond leveler solved the problem. The leveler is PVC pipe pushed through the beaver dam. The beavers know the water is leaking from the pond via the pipe but they can't figure out how to plug the pipe. The ideas in the link should work as well. If the pond is drained the beavers will move on.

Later,
Dan

Thank you for the idea..... unfortunately it will not likely work. The network of ponds and lakes are constantly moving and the ones we have are 10 acres and 5 acres each. The water daisy chains from pond to pond picking up water from the interstate as it goes. It ultimately ends up in the local river.

All of that to say, it is never truly dry and always has water moving which drives the Beavers crazy. Our only relief is during a drought.

I used traps and scent from bass pro shops. Go to YouTube to see how to use them. Also a .22 with a scope and some lights near the scent mound you make.
