Butcher pigs - remove hair- torch?

We always dipped them in a 55 gallon barrel of boiling water mixed with slaked lime then scraped them with a corn knife. We left the skin on so they wouldn't dry out while curing or smoking. I guess a lot of the hog goes to waste now days, times change.

Yep, times have changed down here. We are over run with hogs. I have grown to despise then. I still like to eat em but I have way too many and they're destructive. I trap/shoot 7-10/yr and don't even put a dent in the population. The big nasty ones I drag out and don't even bother. The good size ones I will always try to grab the backs traps. That's choice!

Yes I waste some but They're prolific and every time I pull trail cams I see new litters.

May not be a popular view but we have a real problem and the damage they cause in TX is in the BILLIONS.

I never knew there were so many and they caused such problems. I would imagine they could be dangerous, also. And I thought there were problems here because we are becoming overrun with wild turkeys. Not quite the same - I'm sure.

And I'm trying to promote more turkeys on my land.

;)

C4 - be careful what you wish for there - you could be like us. It all started here about ten years ago. At first the wild turkeys were an oddity and neat to watch. A few people would even feed them. The population grew - like rabbits. People found they were feeding up to 40#/week. When they had had enough they just quit feeding. The turkeys still came into their yards and started digging, scratching, tromping, stomping etc - many folks have had their yards torn to shreds. I have a good friend - just north of me - whose entire yard looked like it was rototilled - lawn, shrubs, flower beds ........I've seen a "herd" of 50+ birds in her yard at one time.

However, on the bright side - the turkeys may run all your hogs off. The wild ones are certainly aggressive enough.
