John Deere 50
I found a 1956 Jd 50 it's in good shape But not perfect. Has some sheet metal damage and the hood has been cut. Tires are good and it runs good. We are in ohio and prices seem to be a little higher here for some reason, the guy wants $2000. It as the three point and pto. Is this a good buy or not??

It's a good price if everything works on that tractor. Any excessive fluid leaks (all old tractors leak some)? Test drive it. Engine should operate smoothly with no hesitation on acceleration. Check operation in all gears forward and reverse while looking for clutch slippage. Check the 2-stage clutch operation to be sure the pto clutch is shifting in and out OK. Verify that the 3pt hitch is operating OK and is staying in the raised position (it's preferable to check this with an implement of some kind on the hitch). Check the gauges for proper operation. If the tractor seems to have a problem with any of these checks, then you have an opportunity to deal off the asking price.

Looks like a great deal from the pictures. Congrats on the purchase. A very good JD to get started with...

Here is our 1954 50. I has power steering (which leaks like a sieve, got to fix someday) and live PTO. We mainly use it on the shredder since it has live PTO.

If it is worth more than $2000 to YOU - then Yes.
If you are "into" antiques in some way - then maybe, but you wouldn't be asking us (-:
Do you have plans for it ?
Would you use it, restore it, sell it on, etc. ?

Your money, your time, your choice (-:
