buy the right anti-freeze

I certainly don't keep up on all the new designs out there but I know many diesel engine blocks have been ruined because of cavitation that didn't have the wet sleeves. A couple guys in that NH thread mentioned the same thing.

I am sitting here reading my manual and it states that I should use a 50/50 mix of permanent anti-freeze and water.

Since I bought my L4310 Kubota used, I don't have the user's manual. Anyone like to tell me what type of anti-freeze to use in the Kubota?

All ethylene glycol coolant/anti-freeze is permanent. The abilty to raise the boiling point or keep from freezing never goes away. That is where the problem lies.
The additive package is what goes away.

For years International didn't mention SCA's. Now they do. Like I said do what you feel is right. Every diesel I have gets charged coolant. Every diesel mechanic I know says the same thing. You may be perfectly fine not running it. Fleetguard is approved for almost all applications of diesels. It's the same price as Prestone. It's your choice for sure. I'm just saying what I've seen over the years from being around alot of diesel equipment.

Rich, my Kubota manual only called for "permanent" antifreeze (ethlyene glycol) and I think that's what came in it, but like Cowboydoc and MikePA, when I changed it, I used the Fleetguard. In my case, I think I paid maybe a dollar a gallon more than I would have paid for Prestone, so for the difference in cost, why not just play it safe.

I'd just go buy some EC-1 and be done with it.. assuming the engine is 99 year model up..

alot of engines don't go good with extended life coolant ie the carbo-cylic? acid type..

That's correct, although it does not meen you should leave the same coolant in forever. The permanent was in comparison to the old alcohol based winter antifreze. That would have to be drained out in the spring, and replaced with water to prevent boil overs.

I don't think they've sold alcohol antifreze since I was a kid.

The manual for my JD 855 calls for low silicate pernament antifreze. I know TSC has it and I suspect Wally World does.
