Buying a landscape rake, anyone selling?

On a BX, a 6 ft might be a little too much.

I have a BX24 also with a 5ft, no wheels. If a hit a root or rock, it will stop me in my tracks. Overall I found the 5 ft a good size. BTW, I have a Farmforce from TSC. It was $399 with 10% off. Price may have gone up a bit, but new is always nice. Paint matches also.

I am going to look at two rakes tonight.
The first one is made by York and is 6 foot, no gauge wheels for $350 pretty good shape.
The second one I do not know the manufacturer though it is red. It is in better shape and is 5 foot with gauge wheels for $400.
I know York manufactured rakes have an excellent reputation.

Sure, York rakes are good, but they're very expensive, and I've used York, Midwest, Landpride, and they all are good quality.

I say go for the 5' with the gauge wheels (you'll really appreciate those, and they are a $200-$300 option). Like I said, 5' is a better size for the BX.

I bought the 5 foot with the gauge wheels for $375. I really wanted the 6 foot York as you could tell it was a lot stronger and it was much heavier. The main reason I went with the smaller rake is the wheels but I was also concerned the full size rake would be too big for my 3 pt hitch. The tines were 3 maybe 4 inches higher and the distance between the bottom of the 3 pt arms and the top link was 4 inches longer. I was worried my hitch would have trouble lifting it high enough off the ground. Was I correct in my thinking?

Yes. I had issues lifting my 6' rake high enough before I added the Pat's system. Like I said, I knew the 6' rake was too big for my subcompact, but I was 80% certain that I'd be getting a larger machine a few years down the road and figured I could get away with it for a while - the 6' rake is perfectly sized to my B3030.

The subcompacts are great little machines, and a great step up from your typical garden tractor, but they are still pretty lightweight, and do best with the smallest of the "big tractor" implements.

I think the 5' rake with the gauge wheels will serve you well.

I have a Woods RB 60 rear blade and a Woods LRC 60 Landscape rake with gauge wheels. Both are well made and rugged. LRC is the Estate series, a little lighter duty than the LR series which starts at 72". If I needed a heavier duty unit for everyday use I would have bought the Landpride LR1560 with gauge wheels for just about $1000.
