I have the 28J machine.6000#. 12" bucket and the teeth are there and in good shape.I have it at my brothers right now and my nephew called me today, yesterday he dug out a 24" stump, he used the excavator for digging around it and they have a 150hp 4 whhel drive tractor they used for pulling the stump out. He said it worked great .

Good point, excuse the pun. We have a 6000 lb mini and when we put new teeth on it dug like a new machine.

I just came from my brothers, got to use the mini today. God it digs good ! When my nephew used the tractor to pull the stump it was to break the roots that were still attached. Im new to the excavator and Im sure it will take a little more practice to get the hang of it but Im sure it will do everything I want it to do. And the bucket has like new teeth on it.

Does anyone know where the fuel filter on a IHI 28J mini excavator is? I just bought this machine and I havent got a service manual for it yet. It has a inline add-on filter but we cant find tje factory filter. It has an Isuzu engine. Thanks

Kx 41-3's are very nice little machines. I personally don't like anything that small, because they're just annoying...no offense, /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif but they are very well built machines. A heck of a lot smoother than the -2's. Good choice in machines, Kubota is a tough product.

I understand your thoughts about the kx41. How about the KX71, i have nearly 3/4 mile of 3 1/2 ft deep ditch through tight clay, rock, etc. Am I fooling myself into thinking it will be able to do the job? also, what size hardwoods might this unit be able to take out - - for example, how about a 12" across 25 ft tall black jack oak? Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

You know, I'm not too familiar with the power and performance of a 71 model. I actually have never seen one up front I don't think, I'm trying to remember if I saw one at the local Kubota dealership but at any rate, it probably can dig that trench you need dug. The tree sizes might be a little large for the unit but again I'm not sure. Actually if they're already cut it should do fine, you can get a hyd. thumb for the kx71-3. The kx91-3 is another good size machine, a nice middle size from the 41 to the 121.

Well, I took the plunge a few hours ago and purchased the KX71-3, with the hyd. thumb. Witha fuel cost of <$3.00/hour and unit cost of approx $12.00 per hour, I figured that even if it took a little longer to dig the trees out, it will be far less expensive than leasing a D3 or D4 @ $80.00 hour. Also, I just purchased a M105X with front end loader that can also potentially help remove the trees. Of course the M105X will have many other normal farm applications also.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Oh, one other thought, the breakout for the KX71 is 6,350 lbs, and its operating weight is 6,305 lbs, hopefully to help support its' work

Happy digging. If I could fit a KX71 in my garage that's what I would have bought instead of a KX41. The 41 will do the job but it takes longer. Come to think of it that's a good thing though. More seat time.
