That is a great price on it Turbe, keep us updated on how it performs. Not that you should have to but you might want to keep Craftsman around for a bit to make sure the tranny in your 1042 is one that is working properly some have had issues others have been fine.

I was thinking of selling the "ole" craftsman, but after reading this forum (and before I made the purchased) I think I may keep it.. I do want to pull a trailer and a 6x6 I made to smooth top soil (I am re-doing a section of my yard) and I think the "ole" craftsman will come in handy for this...

I did drive my lt1042 down the street to a lot that has a steep slope and I did notice a little sluggishness up the slope (and I heard a differnt sound sometimes.. like maybe the belt slip)... Also, after doing this, I brought it back home and for a little bit I did get the vibration/noise problem at idle... I'm calling about those two issues on Monday..

I have 30 days with Lowes.. also, their 4 year warranty has a lemon rule.. if they repair for the same issues three times they will replace the unit in whole...

OK...I was going to buy either a 1042 or 1045. $1699 is my max budget. Given these problems I am reading, is there a better name, motor and tranny out there? I have 3/4 acre with slight incline in the back. I don't want this to be a big mistake as my wife will not be happy. I have looked at Husqvarna, Troy Bilt, Toro (blech)...have not been to dealer yet as I will be moving from VA to OH in 2 weeks and then making the purchase. Thanks in advance for any advice given.

VBReds, you might consider a John Deere 100 series. I think they go for about $1700 (1$ over your budget).

VBReds, what part of Ohio are you moving to? I just recently bought a 1045 here in the Cincinnati area. Extensive hills in my yard. NO PROBLEM WHATSOEVER.

I'm in West Chester. I just moved here from Chicago.
I bought my 1045 from Tractor Supply in Hamilton. Free delivery and a free dump cart swayed me.

Was it 1,699? Is the steel dump cart deal still going on? When did you buy? What is the grade of your lawn? does the hose cleaner connection work? And....if you need work on it, who does the service?
