Buying a tractor: who makes that Brand?

Mitsubishi makes some complete decals for Mahindra, no? Engines for some LS, no?

Shibaura is foggy. Still making "some" NH?

My eraser is about worn out keeping score!!:D

This whole thing needs some sort of interactive map to keep it all straight! If nobody has picked up Shibaura I am sure somebody will come along pick them up. The reputation they had with Ford/New Holland is ripe for somebody to pick up.

In my view, this is much more about global monetary/economic issues than it is the equipment per se.

Manufacturing of all these units had moved first to Japan, for its quality, now Korea has a lot of focus in both tractors and automobiles, in part because of the monetary situation in Japan being so dismal. If corporations have off-shored manufacturing from the US, how far behind can Japan be in suffering a similar fate?

Korea, in my view, ought not get too complacent. These are large, multi-national corporations and they will increasingly move more of their focus to China, India or anywhere else that is an advantage to their bottom line.

Shibaura Japan simply may not presently be attractive to anyone, if New Holland found no way forward with many of their products and chose instead to shift work to Korea's LS.

Shibaura makes the majority of the NH line, the Boomer 30XX series, such as the 3050. LS makes the Boomer XX series, such as the Boomer 50. Less options, cheaper price, does not have the sloped hood, but evidently there is a market for it. I have not seen one on a lot yet.

Mitsubishi makes all of the current Mahindra tractors 36hp and smaller. TYM makes the new 5010 model for Mahindra with what Engine I do not know. ALL other Mahindra tractors are made by Mahindra and have Mahindra built engines to the best of my knowledge.

Living in Australia and I have just spent a month looking at compact utility tractors (45-50hp) and reading the forums.

Here is a list of just some of the brands I have come across and where their components have been sourced.

A Massey Ferguson made in India (dealer said they have also been made in Spain and France)

A Compact Case made in Korea

A Utility Case with a Turkish Transmission

A Korean TYM with a Perkins engine

A Korean TYM with a Kubota Engine

A Kubota with a Daedong transmission

John Deere compact from Yanmar Japan (plant now in China)

A Mahindra with Daedong engine

A Montana from LS Korea

Countless number of Chinese tractors with all sorts of brand names and, I am advised, variable quality and support.

Imported Grey Market refurbished Kubotas (still not banned in Australia)

Small Kubotas assembled in USA

Despite the enormous range of compact/utility tractors on the market ( and $ parity), you still pay about 40% more than in the USA for a good new tractor.

Postings on this site have been of great help in wading through a not so transparent tractor market.

check out new holland. they have a good presence over there
