Buying a used tank for diesel storage. Had Kerosene in it... Is that OK?

As title says.

I need a little 75 Liter storage tank for my diesel tractor.

The goal is to keep this full for winter and use it as a back up for the tractor. (I have a number of other 5Gal cans)

This way I always know I have backup for the PTO generator.

It has had kerosene in it for the past 5 years. Will that present any problems if I fill it with diesel fuel?

Should be no problem. Kerosene is just diesel without additives.

Just fill it with diesel and use it. No problem at all.

This isn't accurate... #2 diesel has paraffin in it, Kero doesn't, and the paraffin is what "gells" and plugs filters... SO, kero is a hotter fuel than #2... (with less BTU's of energy in it)

To the OP, having kero in the tank is NO problem at all, just fill the tank and use it as you wish...

If I get one of those plastic drums, or barrels....what would be the best way to clean it out?
Usually they have soap, or canola oil or a food product of some sort.

It may be easier to get one of these and put a hand pump for drum on it. I plan to keep it indoors.

Maybe paint thinner?Word of caution;those plastic barrels can split over time;I would put a catch basin around it.

Probably not worth the discussion bur neither diesel nor kerosene is a single type of molecule. They are mixtures and the range of molecular weights overlap. The kerosene range is typically slightly lower so it has a slightly lower energy content and viscosity. Kerosene has less paraffin (as an additive) but not necessarily none. They blend it to get the desired flash point.

IF you are worried about that bbl., then have it "steam" cleaned out...
