What I don't unerstand is with all these laws thays still robbin and killin going on all over!

well of course not... criminals don't obey laws!! it's one of those 'defacto' things.. :)

that's why gun control laws will -never- solve a gun violence problem.. they only effect/impact the rights of those that obey them.. who.. are not the violaters.

it's a pro/con thing.. con is the opposite of pro.. like congress is the opposite of progress.. :)

Sad thing is, every body knows this, and for some reason, the same "every bodies" think that some new "gun law" will solve the problem. I think making every body without a violent criminal history mandated to own and train to use a fire arm would likely cause criminals to prey upon themselves since the "good" folk are armed, but then I aint in congress.

I agree... While it might get hairy for about 1 week.. if everybody allowed to own a gun was required to own one, and to take a shooting course, and furthermore.. was required to shoot a criminal if a crime occured.. then for about one week there would be alot of brass casses being recycled.. population might go down 10% rapidly.. then I suspect society might get real polite after that.

A little off topic but,.

One observation I made while in law enforcement was the PITA system of concealed handgun permits, from an officers point of view. I think everyone that can, should be able to carry a weapon. A smart officer is going to "assume" every one on first contact is "possibly" armed anyway. So why do they always want you to pay for another "card" to tote around? It would be to easy to add it to your drivers license, either by universal color strip, (same in all states) or add it as an endorsement on your DL, that's the 1st thing we would ask for, generally.

I would still use the same caution even still but it would let me know if this individual was licensed. It may come as a surprise to some, but not every one tells the truth when asked if they have a firearm, not that I mind, I just want to know where it is and secure it for the short time I was in your life.

Have you looked lately at the Texas state statute on CHL? I think it's 71 pages.:D I retired before such a thing as a CHL existed in Texas.

Honestly Bird I haven't, outside of the requirements here of carrying a firearm. Prior to the CCH laws, we had the general carry law, as I'm sure you remember, overnight in another county, hunting, practice range ect tra.

The new CCH laws are considerably "bigger" as usual they had to "spell" it out real good I suppose.

Prior to the CCH laws, we had the general carry law, as I'm sure you remember

I started in the days when the law started "whoever shall carry on or about his person, saddlebags, or portfolio any pistol . . . ." and went on to name a number of other weapons. We got a new Penal Code the first of 1974 with some modernized language. And yes, there were exceptions to the prohibition to carrying handguns, but I can remember the old head of the police academy saying, "If you find someone with a pistol, you put him in jail and let him prove he meets the exception." The old law made an exception if you were "traveling", but didn't define "traveling" so that was left up to the courts. It was quite interesting reading some of the old case law. Of course that law was written before anyone ever heard of an automobile. So some of the earliest court decisions said you were "traveling" if you crossed a county line, but then as faster transportation was invented, some the courts decided you were only "traveling" if you were going to be away from home overnight. The laws are constantly changing or evolving. One reasons the Texas CHL law is so long and complex is that it quotes a lot of other laws, such as the penal code.

Why is it that all bad legislation starts in California and then infects the rest of the Country?
Not intended to be political, just a legitimate question.

I have a friend who is a gun broker and sells guns all over the US. . . but california. He won't even sell the ones that are legal for sale there. when he gets a call, email or letter from someone wanting to buy a gun from CA he tells them to vote the bums out who make up their laws and reinstate the 2nd amendment and then he'll sell there:D i think the car companys sould do the same. if CA passes some new crazy emissions law Ford, Chevy Dodge and the rest of them should say NO! ! ! We just won't sell cars in CA. That would wake them up! ! It would also lower the price of the cars the rest of buys because they don't have to keep redesigning them every year. Same for the Gas companies, they make something like 8 different blends for different parts of the country, which makes it more costly (down time changing the formula) Just make one type of gas, if its not good for your state tough! ! make your own refinery. I truly beleave that if these companies woud do this it would solve a lot of problems.

Yikes!

So much for presumed innocent until proven guilty! :(
