BX2200
Good day, I am new to this forum, but I have been reading the different responses for several months. I am in the process of purchasing a BX1500, with FEL, box blad and pull behind finish mower. Does anybody on the forum have the same equipment? I have approx 3 acres and will be working mostly on flat land. Will be building a crushed limestome drive way approx 12 ft x 200 ft, plus other small jobs. I also cut 10 yards or business for extra retirement funds.
Do you think that this would be a good set up for what I am planning on doing.

I live in Clinton Mississippi.....

Thanks

Krecker

The BX1500 is a capable machine and the newest member of the Kubota BX family. It will do what you want, but the driveway is going to be a lot of work...take your time and go slowly.

One thing you might want to check out is a low-hours BX2200 with a FEL. Trade-ins happen, especially from those of us who stepped up to the BX-22 as we wanted the hoe.

It should work just fine. You're a bit on the small side for building the driveway - a heavier tractor with more HP would be helpful. But it sounds like you won't be doing much of that work, and if you take it slow and easy you'll be OK.

You could always rent a larger tractor for a day or two right when you get the gravel delivered. The other thing to do is, if possible, make sure to have the drivers spread your gravel for you. That way you only have to do finish grading - and they can sometimes spread it as well as you can finish it.

So if you are mowing, and transporting the unit (to the other 10 yards), you don't want to go too big.

On the other hand, that is coming from a guy who wishes for a bigger tractor pretty much daily - take it for what it is worth /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif...

And if you can find a used BX, that would also definately be worth looking at. Tough to find used around here, though, except for harvest lease returns...

I would give serious thought about the RFM. The small BXs are said to give a superior cut with their MMMs. I have a RFM on my B2910...but if I bought a BX I would certainly go with the mid mounted mower unless there was a VERY good reason not to.

I would check prices on BX1800 and BX2200 as well. I found that the BX1800 was only $600(over BX1500) more for the package I was getting and the BX2200 was only another $1600(over BX1500). I went with the BX1800 w/60MMM, FEL, grass catcher, rear ballast box and a few other small things. The BX1800 and BX2200 give you a little more ground clearance to boot.

I went with the BX1500 w/FEL and rear blade. My driveway is 400' long and I also have 3 acres. This past week, I moved 23 tons of gravel into 350' of french drains and backfilled without a hitch. The horsepower has not been an issue pulling the rear blade in PA clay etc.. If you feel more comfortable having the extra capacity then pay the extra price for the BX1800 or BX2200. I too was tempted to go bigger but I would move out of the BX's and into something larger if I had the need. So far, I am very pleased with the BX1500.
