Buying Advice buying first time

i am just starting a small farm- mostly vegetables- peppers, tomatoes, etc.... so i think i will need bushhog, plow, scoop, and to be able to pull a trailer.

the oil pressure is 45 with cranking cold, and maintains 25 at idle, which seems to be pretty good for a 60 yr old tractor.

I bought a ~ '48 9N when we moved to the country 15 years ago. I spent more time wrenching than in the tractor seat. It looked great on day of purchase. On my experience, I would suggest saving some more and buying a diesel utility tractor that meets your needs. My 2 cents. SB

i have never owned a tractor before, and am looking at a 1953 ford golden jubilee. it appears to be taken well care of, just a little faded paint. the description describes a machine with 100% compression in all cylinders, new guages, new brakes, new akle seals, new points, and new lower arm links. the front tires are weighted. the rear tires are filled and have chains on them. this tractor, with a 5ft bushhog, rear scoop, 6ft blade, and boom pole with a 2 hour delivery for 3600. is this a good deal? i have not been able to drive it or see it in person yet. are there other questions i need to ask prior to buying? i have found beat up looking similar models for 2000 and totally restored for 4500, so i think maybe a good fair price for seller and buyer?

If you have $3600 to spend, I'd get out of the 1950s and into the 1960s. My 1964 MF135 diesel cost $3600 when I bought it in July 2006. It's a lot more tractor for the money than that old Ford you're eyeballing. There are gas engine models of the MF135 if you don't want to mess with a diesel.
