Really now considering new LB1914 Kioti from Little Tractor in Illinois but concerned about gear drive and 19hp. Since never had a tractor before just concerned about operating it and worried about wearing out the clutch. Again, it will only be used occasionally with small bushhog and light bucket work on flat property and around small barn. Any opinions?
Mike ... I bought a Kubota because of my soil conditions and omitted the Kioti's for the same reason.

You will not find a better power to weight ratio than a Kubota though. My machine weighs less than 1800 lbs and has 30hp at the engine and 22hp at the PTO.

That LB114 is a tidy machine, but a bit on the small side for 12 acres me thinks, especially with horses. You may not know it yet, but you will need a loader for your machine (FEL) ... this will add to your expense.

Good luck ...

Good luck on your search! Having done it recently myself, I can honestly say that it's fun to tractor shop (at least here in L.A.)! I only wish I had more property and more uses. My wife says I spend more time thinking about what I can use the tractor for, than my actual use of it.

Go down to a general merchandise store, buy a box of crayons (the original box with just the 7-8 colors of the spectrum in it).

Close your eyes, pick a crayon. Whatever color it is....there you have it. They are all good tractors these days. If they weren't, they would be out of business in the information age which we live in.

As far as hp goes, I don't have a clue. These guys can tell you everything you need to know and they'll even relate stories of what their tractor's hp rating is coupled with what they do with it around their home/farm/ranch.

Beware of the guys who remind me of Tim Taylor on "Tool Time", or whatever his name was. They'll have you using dynamite for birthday candles, if you know what I mean.

Good luck, send pics when you make your choice.

Welcome to TBN :D! I had an old Ford 1100 (13/11.3 HP) tractor to manage 12.5 A's of rough hill and woods for 20+ years. It had a 5' dual hydraulic front dozer blade and 40" RC's and a 42" tiller as attachments. If it had had a FEL I would probably still be using it. I do miss it on the hill slope and in the woods. When I looked at the 1914 I believe it was $9995 with 4wd and loader. Sounds like a deal to me. I don't think I'd worry about wearing out the clutch. Tractors have operated with gear drive forever.

I have a 19hp tractor with a FEL but only 2 acres. I use it for stall cleaning for 3 horses and 1 goat. I finish mow about 1 acre and rough cut the other acre. I maintain the driveway with a box blade. I disk the pasture about once a year. I have a rear blade if it ever snows, which it hasn't this year. This tractor could easily maintain more acreage. I would not want to finish mow 12 acres with it every week. Rough mow a couple times a year? Sure.

Hello again-I have located a used Kubota 7800 with FEL,HST, Industrial tires at a dealer 40 miles from home. Supposed to have 100 hrs and looks like new. Will go look at it Monday. They are asking $11,900. What do you all think?

If it's in like new condition then this is probably a winner.

I don't think you need all that big a machine for what you described. Maybe you could give us little more info.

I'm visualizing just some pasture mowing from time to time and moving a little dirt fixing the place to your licking. A subcut could probably handle this. The 7800 would let you get some larger implements more loader capacity.

I have a NH TC29DA. It is similar to the 7800. I use it to maintain my 12.5 A's. The price seems right :D! Jay

Mike - I've recently been going through the same selection process and ended up buying a JD990.............however, I found these sites to be of great assistance when comparing specs or shopping for used equipment. The last link goes to a site with information on all the various implements you may be considering (what are they; uses; etc..) - you'll need this once you buy the tractor. BTW - The 7800 sound good if it hasn't been trashed or leased.

Good luck.

I bought a new 21-hp Kubota B7510HST with the LA302 FEL (4-ft wide bucket) in May05 for $12600 plus tax.

The average retail price (dealer price off his lot) for a used 2005 B7800 without FEL is $12,000.

At 100 hours the engine is barely broken in. $11.9K looks like a pretty good price to me.

I bought new implements: 4-ft wide King Kutter box blade ($300), 4-ft wide KK rotary mower (brush hog, $600) and a KK middle buster plow/subsoiler combo ($140).

I have a 10-acre spread (flat pasture land) and so far the 7510 has done OK for chores like mowing and hauling (dirt, sand, gravel). I mow about 7 acres of weeds in the spring and when they're 3-4 ft high it takes me about 11 hours to mow the weeds going slow in low gear.

The dealer delivered my B7800 yesterday. He told me to try it for a week and if I think I need the bigger L2800 to let him know and he will pick it up. Of course it would be new and $4000 more so why not say that! Anyway, I hav'nt really done anything yet with it but did drive it through a muddy, sloppy section if pasture to get to the barn (got a lot of work to do in low spots and driveway to barn) and it went right on through without a problem.
I would have liked the bigger FEL on L2800 but do like the size of the 7800.
Next purchases will be box blade, rotary cutter and probably auger for fence posts. Are the King Kutter brand implements sold at Tractor Supply any good?
The prices seem pretty good. Well gotta go, my orange toy awaits!!!
