buying from far away, machinery surveys???

I too traveled a pretty good distance to get my mower. One thing that made me feel better about doing so was the many "fresh" pics that the seller took for me. I would ask him to take a pic of something specific, and he had no problems doing so. We had also exchanged plenty of emails as well. He also took a youtube vid of it starting and running and moving, etc. He did that on his own and sent it to me. Bottom line, I did as much research up front as I could. It helped that he recognized I was coming from far away, and agreed to take less for it because of that. Well that and there was 2 feet of snow on the ground, and not a lot of people thinking about buying a new mower. I am happy with my purchase so far, and next week it goes into the local JD dealer for a thorough going over. Ultimately that will be the tell all on if my good deal was really a good deal.

Bought my 1948 John Deere B tractor from a seller near Portland, OR, about 400 miles North of my place. He is a collector/restorer like myself so I didn't have any doubt that the tractor was exactly as he described it in his Craigslist listing. We spoke on the phone several times. He emailed me more photos and put me in touch with a shipper who specializes in hauling tractors up and down the West Coast. Paid $1750 for the tractor and $400 shipping.
