You asked for potential explanations and got some. Obviously, the primary reason people come to TBN is not to buy and sell. It's also not why TBN was started.

That makes sense. Although on the other hand, sellers of used equipment do exist and I would have thought that it would likewise also make sense to target those most likely to be interested in such equipment. Apparently, I stand corrected. Most sellers ARE NOT users of TBN.

There are lots of sellers, i.e., advertisers, on TBN. Lots of dealers, too, and several are also users, Neil Messick, the Wallaces, Pats Easy Change, come to mind. However, you're correct, being a seller doesn't always translate into being a user.

Each advertiser has to decide how much they will participate. I imagine they need to walk a fine line between participating and having TBN end up being a defacto sales and support site for their products and services.

Every private seller that doesn't list and every buyer that doesn't look may be missing opportunities. It is free, right? Makes no sense to me not to make use of it.

I look to see what's for sale all the time, and if I had something to sell, I'd certainly list it. Some may be geographically challenged (far from many users), or unwilling to drive. But for me, there are surely hundreds of members/visitors within driving distance. Don't understand any wholesale statement that it's not particularly useful or that it isn't why we come here. Don't many initially come here as part of research when looking to buy a tractor? Aren't the used tractors listed in the classifieds a data point that can contribute to their purchase decision? Aren't these buyers also looking for implements? They may just find what they are looking for, in tractor or attachment, right there!

It is a fine line though between a user "service" and an all out free-for-all ad mechanism that is blitzed by dealers. I'm not sure how I feel about dealers using it to advertise. This could make it too ebay-like, loaded with clutter and the same new stuff listed over and over again. Yet, dealers will have some good inventory to offer, and maybe some real deals too. If it were to become this, I'm not sure how it could be governed fairly, efficiently, and with low burden by/to TBN.

I think that there is a lot of used stuff that people could be shipping but are probably not thinking about it.

Say you are upgrading to a larger tractor (LOTS of people here do that) and trading in. Your dealer isn't going to give you more for that trade in because your tractor has an OEM sunshade or because you have a hydraulic toplink or sidelink which won't be big enough for your new tractor.

That said - anyone have a used sunshade canopy for a L2800/L3400. Not sure if I might not trade mine in in a couple of years so I want to watch what I spend on it but I'll be happy to pick up a used one if you've got one :D

Parts and workshop manuals are another example. I bought mine from Messicks and if I ever trade I will gladly sell them to someone here for half of what I paid or less.

I may be a little late on the discussion of developing more trade... on the forum. I have a few implement such as a box blade I have not used for years.
And like mention earlier the forum may offer equipment I might need.

I find almost all the items listed are either too far to drive or overpriced. A lot of used stuff is priced within 70% or so of new items... add any drive of a couple hours or more to that and it's not worth the bother.

Rarely see anything that I want anyway...LOL and there's a lot of used equipment/attachments available locally.

Drove 4hrs once to look at a tractor that was a POS... pics looked fine, asked all the right questions before going but the seller pleaded "ignorant" when the truth was he was looking for a sucker and thought if I drove that far I'd not go home without the tractor.

One example I asked was "does the tractor smoke", his reply was only normal diesel smoke... so I thought a puff of black under sudden load... nope... blue smoke continuously and blow by that would blow your finger off the hose....

I'm a quick study so that's my last trip to look at a out of my local area tractor.

I am always looking for toyosha engine parts (MF 1010) everywhere....LOL

Perhaps the distance in miles between Buyer and Seller is cost prohibitive, in relation to shipping costs; etc? Just a thought. Happy Tractoring.:tractor:

Several of you have mentioned high transportation costs to move equipment. I agree. In addition, TBN members predominately prefer implements with quick hitch capabilities. These have not been around very long and very rare to see them used and for sale. The transportation problem could probably be solved with a setup like YT has. Their "hauling schedule" is used by lots of people. Ken Sweet

Have you tried EBAY? Go to Search and type in Tractor Manuals. Hope this helps and you find what you are looking for. Good Luck.
