I not only meant orphaned as for parts.. but for service as well. Sure i can get 'most' of the domestic yanmar parts from a dealer.. and 'some' o fthe grey market parts, but unless I have a yanmar dealer around... I'm turning the wrench on it..

Just lots of stuff to consider for a new tractor owner, before they jump into a tractor that doesn't have thebenefit of support networks like the 'Big three".

I do not see any difference in parts support between the Yanmar and the JD 650. They are both manufactured by Yanmar. The parts for both tractors come from Japanese Yanmar factories. Both tractors have parts support in the USA. If parts are still manufactured or warehoused for either tractor you should be able to get them.

The 186d is a little nicer tractor with slightly larger smoother and quieter 3 cylinder engine and powershift transmission. Yanmar has a parts warehouse in Illinois and still supports the Yanmar tractors made for the American market. I have often wondered why they still support what must be a relativly small number of tractors. Maybe it is a side effect of having to sell John Deere parts for the many tractors that have Yanmar hearts. That said having a full service dealer near-by is tremendously convieniant and John deere is more likely to have a dealer near-by. However if you are looking at a 186d maybe there is a Yanmar dealer near-by. A lot of Yanmar owners have found that it works pretty well to mail order the parts they need. If you are in a hurry you can get them shipped overnight and have them delivered next day to your doorstep. If you are lucky neither tractor will need very much in the way of parts. These little beasts live for a long time.
