bx 1800 engine wont shut down when key is turned off.

My bx 1800 wont shut down when the key is turned to the off position. The gauges and other electrics all cease to function as they should with the ignition off. Is this
a faulty ignition switch or what ? any help would be appreciated.

It would sound like the fuel solenoid is not shutting off. Try tapping it and check current to it with ignition on and off.

You may also spray some electrical cleaner as well as very light oil into the ignition switch assembly.

Definitely sounds like the stop solenoid is malfunctioning (as Egon suggests).

See if you can find it and move the lever that shuts off the fuel feed. It looks like a tomato paste can with a rod sticking out of it. The rod is attached to a lever in the fuel line that shuts off the fuel flow.

With the tractor running, try moving the lever (be careful) to closed and see if the engine shuts off.

The solenoids are water-sensitive so if you power wash the engine then plan on buying a few. They are usually $80-$100 each. eBay sometimes has them.

As willi67's post indicates, I just went through this over the weekend. Sounds like the same symptoms. You might want to check out volfandt's 2010 post on MTF (See: http://www.mytractorforum.com/showthread.php?t=144843 ).

It turned out to be an electrical problem - for me a plug on the wiring harness had parted, but apparently it also could be a fuse. Does the Operator Presence system work? Mine didn't. If you step off the tractor and hit the HST pedals, or engage the PTO clutch, does it shut down?

By the way, if you are trying to use the tractor while you figure it out, volfandt's trick with the fuel injection pump switch works great. Run a wire from the hole in the cut-off switch forward and out the exhaust opening up front. Pull it and the engine shuts off.
