Kubota BX-2200
I can't help feeling like I'm butting into a private conversation by posting these questions. I guess from your responses I'll know if I am following procedure here or not.
I'm itching to order a tractor ASAP but had a couple questions that I trust your answers more than what a local dealer has to offer. I have seen/demoed a 7500 (loved it)w/ FEL but since my main use is maintenance of a 1 1/2 acre residential property I believe a BX-2200 w/FEL may be a perfect fit. The problem is the dealer does not have any BX-2200's in stock and I have not actually seen one in person yet. (Only dealer within 100 miles)

OK, the questions are: The dealer tells me that on the BX-2200 once the FEL is disconnected the loader control assy. is part of that assy. where the B7500 the loader control assy. stays with the tractor. I assume that makes it easier for a front blade attachment or ? Any feelings on that being a pro (B7500) or con (BX-2200). I think I may be missing something here. He made a point of this B7500 feature.

Also my brother in law's tractor needs are about the same and we where thinking that we could buy identical tractors and pool our money for one FEL and other implements. We even thought about a backhoe for trenching, footings and planting shrubs, trees, etc.. I mentioned this to the dealer and a Kubota Rep., who was there at the time, said that by this summer Kubota is "unveilng" a backhoe for the BX-2200. The Rep. mentioned that since the other manufacturers (Blue and Green) are jumping into the sub-compact arena the release of the backhoe will help maintain Kubota's market share. The capacity of this backhoe would probably be perfect for our needs. What would be realistic limits, regarding our above mentioned uses, while using a B7500 with a 3 pt backhoe? Thanks.

For one thing i am a BX fan for smaller land owners for most rual owners mostly cut lawn, plow snow, move top soil ect.But you said BBackhoe word! I do belive you would be better off with the 7500 for that reason alone,my opinion is the BX would be a little low to the ground for the places most pepole would take a hoe.lets face it your probley not going dig up your smooth lawn to often.as for the loader control its not a big problem.I have a BX and love it but if i wanted a backhoe i would have gotten the 7500 because of ground clearnce issue

I'd say the dealer making issue about the loader control was simply because he didn't a BX to sell you at the time.We have a B2710 with the loader control that remains on the tractor,a feature I don't care for.But I don't plan on installing a front blade or snowblower either.I would think that a Hoe on a BX would take care of any "average" tasks the "average" homeowner would ask of it.I'm sure the capacity would be small, but the BX would let you back into very small areas to work.We own a BX and I would consider a Hoe for many projects such as you have mentioned.I like the sound of splitting the cost of the goodies,I would have a pre-nupt drawn up just in case!!!

I hope that I am not butting in also. Some time back I mentioned that Kubota was working on a small backhoe for the BX. Yes, I got this info from the regional rep who gave me some other more interesting tid bits about the BX. Since it will be sized for the BX but useable on other small Kubotas supposedly it will be lighter and smaller so as to be proportioned to the BX unit. Ground clearance should not be a problem, keeping in mind the intended purpose of the BX--a small, multi-purpose home owner tractor. I suspect the BX back hoe will be at least equal to the BX FEL which I am very happy with even if it is somehow according to Carver 3X slower than a 2410. I will not tell you not to get the 7500 if that is what you want but like the other poster, I think he was trying to upsell you by fixating on something that is not really an issue. Seems Kubota takes the BX serious even if others do not understand it's mission and Carver equipment seems to be bringing up the rear in that regard. Anyway, there does appear to be a Backhoe and some other items on their way for the BX. Goodluck with your purchase whatever it will be. Sounds like a good idea too sharing implements etc. J

hey NYT,
i used to be sold on the b7500 until i thought i would give the bx a chance. amn was i shocked. like the others said about the new backhoe coming out, im sure it will do the job. the only real diff. between the bx and the b7500 i sawthat really mattered was the tire size. maybe for someone who suffers from the little d*** symdrome might need bigger tires. my bx should be ready for pickup wednesday and it isnt gonna get no vacation here at my house. i would consider the price of the backhoe and think how many times you will need one. the rental cost of a mini excavator isnt much and you will get the job done faster. unless you were gonna go into the mini backhoe bussiness or use it every weekend i wouldnt bother. the bx2200 is 2000.00 less than the b7500 in my quotes. im sure the backhoe will be prob. 3500.00 so add that to 2000 and get 5500.00. now divide that by the rental cost of prob 300-350 and dont forget to figger the mini excavator is prob. 3 times faster. now that is alot of money. you guys could buy a whole fleet of implements for that. i have 1.2 acre and weld for free trees and plant alot and go thru 20 yds of mulch. also snow and topsoil and prob. small side work. i didnt need the b7500 and it is only 67 pounds more, all in the bigger tires. this is just my opinion and i have been comparing these for months. also i like the shovel as long as i dont have to use the wheelbarrow, hate strugglin with that thing. maybe ill drag the thing down the road until it comes loose and the closest neighbor can have it.

… someone who suffers from the little d*** symdrome. Now, if we had the really long ones, wouldn't we need the higher clearance to keep it from dragging on the ground? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

It seems as if we have the same expectations/needs and reading your post has somewhat snapped me back into reality. I really have no immediate need for anything larger than the BX-2200. I am so ready to plunk down the cash but I can't help thinking about the 7500 or even the 2410! I am 6'5", 270 (and yes, even a little short in the pants! /w3tcompact/icons/blush.gif) but I haven't been able to sit on one of the BX's yet. (Dealer doesn't have any in stock and doesn't seem to care about a sale. I'll be purchasing out of state for sure) I keep thinking that over the course of time the extra $$ for the upgrade, even though I realize it's not needed at this time, is the way to go.
Steve Carver mentioned that some people have expressed interest in upgrading to the bigger model after a short period of time owning the BX 2200. That sticks in my mind.
I will probably have to travel out of state just to get a first hand look/feel of the BX, unless I can locate someone here on Long Island who would let me take a look at their BX.
Thanks all.

I am sure the "trade up" syndrome is not exclusive to BX'ers. J

No it isn't, in addition to sometimes wondering if my BX was the right choice have also looked with lust in my heart at the L48 over my L35. The L35 fits places and is twice the hoe (literally) my wider 28? hp NH 1710 is. The L48 won't fit in my garage, won't fit between the trees, won't turn around, can't tow it... Fortunately I see that bigger (at some point) isn't better) For a tractor that size why spend 40+K when low hour 4WD 580 Super L's go for that with an extendahoe. And why not a small excavator?

The tractors I have don't make financial sense, really, but they make sense in that they keep me having fun and giving myself a sense of accomplishment, something you can't get by directing someone else to do the work. You know that saying, "The Grass is Greener on the Other Side of the Fence" I think everyone wonders at one time or another. If I had to have just ONE tractor, my Ford NH was the perfect size for me. I suppose it would translate in to an L3010 or B2910? When it was too big I got out the pic and shovel, when it was too small I rented something bigger. Renting is expensive, but there's nothing nicer then having a mechanical problem and just making a call and say..."Bring me Another!"

A backhoe for the BX is (for me) a totally useless, worthless, unneeded item...which means I MUST have one! Serious for a minute, it would get a lot of places I couldn't get otherwise, but would the BX be dragging it's belly getting there? The places I take my backhoes, probably a third of them I have to use the hoe to get me in and/or out as no kind of tires will help.

Someone on this board as a signature line that goes

"We Boys and Our Toys!" How fitting! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
