Just noticed this post.
I have similar problems with my bagger of the same vintage. All other pins/bolts got chewed up regularly. I've made the change to rolled pins and have had much better success. Things are a pain in the spring (winter sticks and twigs in fan) and fall (too heavy leaves and/or sticks and twigs), but only pop one or two during the course of a "regular" summer. In spring/fall, I've popped two pins in a single mow. I have LOTS of trees, though.
I'll certainly check the oil in the two gear boxes in the bagger unit. Haven't thought about it. I now have a trailer sufficient to carry the bagger, so perhaps I'll send it in along with my tractor at my 200 hour service.
I engage my PTO at idle, especially with MMM and Bagger installed. Never get anything beyond a puff of smoke. I then throttle up to just off WOT. Makes a big difference in how much noise eminates from the deck and it still cuts great.
